Pope Francis Passes Away at 88: A Legacy of Reform, Compassion, and Controversy

Pope Francis Passes Away at 88: A Legacy of Reform, Compassion, and Controversy

By: Manoah kikekon

Pope Francis

Pope Francis, the charismatic reformer who captivated Catholics worldwide while challenging traditionalists, died Monday at the age of 88. His passing comes just a day after he made a joyful appearance before thousands of worshippers at the Vatican on Easter Sunday.

The first Jesuit pope and the first from the Americas, Francis—born Jorge Bergoglio—led the Catholic Church since 2013, championing social justice, migrant rights, and environmental protection. His tenure was marked by efforts to modernize the Church, including governance reforms and a stronger stance against clerical abuse.

Despite battling health issues in recent years, including double pneumonia that hospitalized him for 38 days, Francis remained active until the end. His final public appearance was on Easter Sunday, where he greeted crowds from St. Peter’s Basilica.

Breaking with tradition, Francis chose to be buried not in St. Peter’s Basilica but in Rome’s Santa Maria Maggiore—the first pope in over a century to be laid to rest outside the Vatican. He also opted for a simple wooden and zinc coffin, rejecting the customary three coffins, in keeping with his image as a humble pastor.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the news in a Vatican statement: "Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. This morning at 7:35 am (0535 GMT), the Bishop of Rome returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church."

Francis’s papacy was not without controversy. While he inspired millions with his progressive vision—famously saying, "If someone is gay and is searching for the Lord and has good will, then who am I to judge?" —conservatives accused him of doctrinal ambiguity on issues like abortion and divorce.

His final months saw growing tensions within the Church, particularly during the 2023 Synod, where debates over the Church’s future highlighted deep divisions.

With Francis’s passing, the Vatican will now follow centuries-old protocols leading to the election of a new pope. In the interim, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the camerlengo, will oversee daily operations.

Francis’s legacy as a pope of the people—a man who prioritized compassion over dogma—will endure. As the world mourns, one question lingers: Who will step forward to continue his unfinished mission of reform?

Nigerian Hajj Pilgrims Set for Enhanced Services as Lawmakers Pass Major Reforms

Nigerian Hajj Pilgrims Set for Enhanced Services as Lawmakers Pass Major Reforms

New Tribunal, Transparent Pricing, and Fair Airline Deals Among Key Changes to Improve Pilgrimage Experience

Meka

In a major push to improve the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims, the House of Representatives has approved a far-reaching reform plan targeting the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. The changes aim to enhance service delivery, ensure financial transparency, and prevent mismanagement in pilgrimage operations.

A major highlight of the reforms is the creation of a Hajj Tribunal to resolve disputes involving NAHCON, tour operators, and pilgrims. “This tribunal will give pilgrims a fair platform to seek justice for contract breaches, financial issues, or service failures,” said Sada Soli, head of the ad-hoc committee behind the report.

Another critical change is the renegotiation of the Bilateral Air Agreement, which currently allows Saudi airlines to transport 50% of Nigerian pilgrims. Lawmakers argue that this deal unfairly sidelines local carriers. “Nigerian airlines have proven their capacity and should get a fair share of Hajj airlift contracts,” the report stated. The House has ordered a review to ensure a more balanced arrangement.

To boost accountability, NAHCON must now publish a detailed breakdown of Hajj costs, ensuring no hidden fees. The commission must also standardize fees for all pilgrims, with clear explanations for any variations. Additionally, lawmakers are pushing for an increase in the Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), currently set at $500, to better support pilgrims during their journey.

The reforms also call for decentralized accommodation management, allowing state boards and private operators to help negotiate fair hotel prices. A service rating system will ensure only approved providers meet pilgrims' needs, while a refund policy will protect pilgrims from substandard services.

To address past inefficiencies, NAHCON must set up a dedicated complaints unit for lodging grievances on accommodation, food, and transport. The commission must also streamline visa distribution, ensuring tour operators receive visas matching their pilgrim numbers, with public records to prevent fraud.

Lawmakers warned NAHCON against unilateral decisions, urging collaboration with tour operators, airlines, and state boards. The commission must also enforce strict compliance with Hajj standards among service providers.

On feeding arrangements, the House wants Nigerian caterers hired to prepare culturally suitable meals, with strict hygiene checks. In a major accountability move, anti-graft agencies have been tasked to audit NAHCON’s N90 billion 2024 Hajj subsidy, including an investigation into claims that the commission sponsored 1,000 officials using the funds.

These sweeping reforms are expected to transform Hajj operations, ensuring Nigerian pilgrims enjoy a smoother, more transparent, and better-organized pilgrimage.

Pontiff Recovers from Pneumonia with Extended Rest Period

After spending 38 days in the hospital battling double pneumonia—mostly away from public view—Pope Francis made his first appearance since February 14 and returned to the Vatican on Sunday. However, with doctors recommending two more months of rest for the 88-year-old pontiff to fully recover, it remains unclear how frequently the leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics will be seen in the coming weeks.

Pope Francis left Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and returned to Casa Santa Marta (St. Martha’s House), his Vatican residence since his election in 2013. Built in 1996 to house cardinals during papal conclaves, the building functions like a hotel, with guest rooms, a small cafeteria, and a chapel. While it serves as a home for Vatican priests between conclaves, it is not generally open to the public.

The pope and his closest aides occupy rooms on the second floor. Known for his independent lifestyle, Francis has managed many of his personal needs with minimal assistance, keeping a low public profile. The Vatican confirmed no major changes have been made to the facility for his recovery, except for the installation of an adjustable bed to accommodate his mobility needs, as reported by Italy’s *Corriere della Sera*.

Dr. Luigi Carbone, vice director of the Vatican’s healthcare service, stated that Francis will have 24-hour nursing care and continue receiving supplemental oxygen as needed.

Despite his reputation for pushing himself to the limit, it is uncertain how strictly Pope Francis will adhere to his doctors’ two-month rest directive. Even during his hospitalization, he continued leading the global Church, appointing bishops and initiating a new three-year reform process.

Typically, the pope holds at least two weekly public events—a Wednesday audience with pilgrims and a Sunday prayer in St. Peter’s Square. During past illnesses, he has maintained these commitments, sometimes via video link from Santa Marta. The Vatican has not yet clarified his upcoming public schedule, including a planned meeting with Britain’s King Charles on April 8 or leading Easter celebrations on April 20.

Francis, the first pope from the Americas and the first in over a century to forgo the grand Apostolic Palace, prefers the simplicity of Santa Marta. Located near the Vatican’s small train station, the residence allows him to stay close to others—a preference he highlighted in his recent autobiography: "I'm happy at Santa Marta because I have people around me. I'll be there so long as God wishes."

As the pope continues his recovery, the world watches to see how his health will shape his public role in the weeks ahead.

Pastor Kumuyi's trip to Washington, D.C., is anticipated to include a number of high-profile meetings with influential members of the media, prominent church leaders, and U.S. lawmakers.

This comes soon after Nathaniel Bassey, a Nigerian pastor and gospel singer, made headlines recently for sharing his candid story about why he was invited to the same US Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast.

Bassey described the transformative phone conversation that resulted in this honour while serving as a minister at Pastor Poju Oyemade's World Faith Believers Convention (WOFBEC).

The well-known gospel singer disclosed that the invitation was sent out by Reverend Merrie Turner following a divine inspiration during prayer. Turner claims that she felt compelled by God to ask Bassey to use his ministry to exalt the United States.

Be Integral in Your Dealings—Clergywoman to Nigerians

Be Integral in Your Dealings—Clergywoman to Nigerians

By Newspeddlers

Pastor Sarah Igbego Ogwuche

The Co-pastor of Army of God Ministries and Author, Pastor Sarah Igbego Ogwuche, has urged Nigerians to be integral in their dealings on a daily basis, in order to become a winning nation.

In an interview with Newspeddlers on Sunday in Abuja, she identified Nigerians to be strong and resilient people, stating that such traits shouldn't be taken for granted as this could help them navigate the current hard times in the country. She also urged clerics to be more selfless and to give back to their communities.

Pastor Sarah Igbego Ogwuche a devoted servant of Jesus Christ and pastor at Army of God Ministries, whose faith-filled journey extends beyond the pulpit and into the realm of creative leadership and authorship. Alongside her role as a pastor, she is also a mother of three and a creative director and brand strategist. Pastor Igbego recently penned a powerful book titled "Praying for Our Children," a 52-week devotional prayer guide designed to nurture and fortify the spiritual lives of our precious children. Alongside her husband, Fred Ogwuche, who serves as the Apostle for Army of God Ministries, they exemplify a partnership grounded in faith and a shared mission of spreading the gospel. Together, they inspire others to walk in faith, empower the next generation, and serve the kingdom of God through prayerful guidance and spiritual mentorship, while continuously seeking new creative avenues for growth and impact.

What is your understanding of Christianity and how has it affected your choices?

I believe that Jesus has impacted our society in such a beautiful way, but the religious aspect of Christianity has not. That is where we have the disparities, because when you talk about the religious aspect of Christianity, it's almost as if they've extracted the heart of Jesus from it. They've extracted the personality of Jesus, so when you extract the personality of Jesus from Christianity, what we have left, is a very biassed and unfair system. So when you now incorporate and censor Jesus around being a Christ follower, that's when you're going to have an impact in a generation, in a society, because now you're implementing the ways of Christ. And what did Christ come to do? He came to save us, he didn't just come to save us, he came to be present with us. He was present with the people. It wasn't about building some kind of hierarchy system, it was about drawing the people to him and meeting the people where they were.

So until, as a society, we can begin to meet people where they are as well, and not just center it around the four corners of the church, going out into society, being the example of Christ, we're going to see more of the impact that we desire to see.

What can you say to people who are currently facing hard times?

I do want to offer hope, but I want to offer hope with practical steps. If the people can see where the change is, it can be implemented. And the change is first going to start with yourself, you sort of have to peel all of the layers that our society has impacted on us. The limitations that came with our mindset, okay, maybe because you're from a particular area, you're never going to be able to cross the border. Or it's not even about crossing the border. We have so much, this is such a wealthy nation, an enriched set of people with just an innate ability to stand the test of time. When you look at a Nigerian, you see strong individuals who have the ability to overcome many challenges; And not that you should just take the challenges and keep overcoming, but how are you turning it into a blueprint for our world?

Yes, we're impacted with everything. But if we look at ourselves, we look at God, and we find ourselves in God, we begin to find the innate ability to create something with what God has put in the inside of us. So if you say we're facing so much, that's true, but we're never lost, there is never a void of hope. So it's about your perspective. What is your perspective on life, That perspective on life will take you from where you are to where you need to be. And then you apply the system of the word of God, which is your prayer, your fasting, your consecration with God, dealing with the spiritual aspects while you prepare yourself physically, and then you now take yourself to where you desire to be by the transportation system of faith.

What can you say about monetization of our Christian faith, and why do people see the church as a means to make money?

I would say church is a structure and not a business. God is a God of order. Now people will automatically consider the church a business when it comes to money. They are churches that are turning it into a business, but it is unfortunate, but there is a structure of money that is needed for a church to become stable, so there is a system that, if the system is done well in the ecclesia of the church, the church is not only supposed to be able to be sustained, but it's supposed to sustain the community. So as people are bringing their tithes and offerings, those tithes and offerings are not just for the church, but is to be used to impact the community of people that we have in the church. I feel like if more pastors are selfless, the church will have a working system. It may look like a business from the outside perspective, but when it is beneficiary from the charity perspective and a functioning perspective, that's when you have a holistic church, because there were also people who funded the ministry of Jesus in the Bible. So these things are things needed for the church, but if we become selfish as ministers, we'll forget the people that were called to impact, and that's what the church is about; You know, there's no I in church. So I feel like we have lost it somehow as a body, but I do want to say that there's still genuine men and women of God out there that are completely selfless. I feel like if we just look at things from different perspectives and encourage one another to see how we can look beyond ourselves and be open-minded enough to build more of a community, I feel like we will be a bit more progressive as a body.

How can a person benefit from the Christian community?

There is so much enrichment in the word of God; I feel like sometimes we just read the words so that we can prevent ourselves from going to hell' meanwhile, there are some things in a Bible that if you feed on, and apply them, you will be rejuvenated, it gives light inside of you. There were times when I was lost in identity, I found myself in the word, and you keep meditating on that word, and it becomes life inside of you, and then you're operating on that life, If your foundation is the word, you begin to build on that, acquiring more knowledge and developing yourself, and with that, you can win anywhere in the world.

How can we navigate the current situation in Nigeria?

Find your niche as a person, you don't have to sound like anybody else. Being yourself is enough. We Nigerians are strong and resilient people, and I don't want you to take that for granted. You don't have to depend on anyone, God has given you what it takes to take yourself out of the place where you are and to where you need to be by the grace of God.

To encourage Nigerians in these trying times, I would say, get grounded in Christ, find yourself in Christ, find out what makes you, meditate on that through the Word of God, receive a download of the next directions, and apply it. If we can be diligent as Nigerians and have integrity, be integral, let your word be your bond. If we have those natural ingredients, there's no way that we will not be the winning nation.

Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the commissioner of youths and social development, Lagos State.

Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, commissioner for youth and social development Lagos State, and Pioneer Real Act of Kindness RAK Development Foundation have organised the fourth edition of Badagry Quran recitation competition to encourage the teaching of Quran.

The competition was held on Sunday at Central Mosque in Badagry, Lagos State.

Ogunlende said the essence of this is to make sure kids learn and master the Quran so we can have good citizens in our state, as it will benefit our community if we can catch them young.

The competition was in two categories: in the junior category, Osolo Qarib came first, Ilyas Firdaus second, and Saliu Khadija third, While in senior category, Muhammad Tayibah came first, Muhammad Anas came second, and Yayhya Mubarak came third. The first position got N100,000, second got N70,000, and the third got N50,000 each.

"The whole intention is to see how we can continue to teach our kids the Islamic religion to continue to encourage them to recite the Quran. The importance of learning the Quran, living by the Quran and imbibing the words of Quran.

"That is the joy we have here that shows what we are doing is beneficial to the kids because if they able to learn the Quran and master it, then we will start to have good citizens in our state at a very young age," Ogunlende said.

He further saud, "I will also use this time to acknowledge the Christians that are fasting, This is a significant period as both religions are fasting at the same time. I will like to implore everyone to take this opportunity to not only pray for ourselves or family but also for our state and, of course, our country, Nigeria.

"We are aware of the economic hardships, prayers, Policies, and we as humans are also part of it. By the time we combine all of this together, we hope and pray that Nigeria will become a better place."

Adding that, "for national development, as you know, the community makes the state, and the state makes the federation. If we have good products from the community, we can start translating it to the top to ensure that we have good citizens at the state and federal levels. In anything we do, religion is key."

Shaik Abdle Hammid Ishola, the chief Immam Badagry, said Ramadan is very important in the history of Islam as it has many benefits.

"This programme aims at improving Arabic education, as it is improving the participants. Badagry is growing, and from what I can see today, Quran is the manual of the Muslims. There's nothing you are looking for in life that it won't put you through, for the development of the country Quran is important, there is a verse that said we should uphold justice," he said.

Muhammad Tayibah came first in the senior category she said, she had prepared with consistent night reading, "Thanks to Mobolaji Ogunlende, and thanks to RAK Foundation."

Catholic Bishop Ban Priests from Organizing Crusade

Callistus Onaga, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese

Callistus Onaga, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, prohibited priests from conducting crusades in their parishes on Saturday.

In his homily at the ordination of 26 priests and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Sacred Heart Seminary, Nsude (Junior Seminary) in Enugu, Mr Onaga announced the ban.

The bishop charged the priests with organising retreats for their parishioners, paying more attention to prayers, and refraining from holding crusades.

Mr Onaga, who was celebrating his 55th alma mater, advised priests not to form prayer groups and instead to take their members to approved prayer locations such as Ugwu D Nso, monastery, and others.

"Do not take a Pentecostal approach to service, and be cautious when forming prayer groups," he warned.

He admonished the newly ordained priests to seek spiritual holiness rather than getting entangled in secular matters.

Previously, the seminary's rector, Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Onodugo, stated that the seminary was founded in 1972 by Bishop of Enugu, His Lordship Godfrey Okoye of blessed memory.

He stated that since 1972, seminary graduates, both priests and lay people, have become well-known figures.

"Today, the seminary can boast of at least one bishop who was among the second set to study in this seminary, and that is Bishop Onaga.

"We are also marking the grand finale of our golden jubilee, which began on June 27.

"Today, our dear bishop raised 26 deacons to the Order of the Priesthood, and we are delighted that such an event is taking place in our time," Mr Onodugo said.

In 1973, Bishop Onaga was among the second group of students admitted to the seminary.

2023 Election: Think about your Future, Vote Credible Candidate - Kumuyi

2023 Election: Think about your Future, Vote Credible Candidate - Kumuyi

BY: News Peddlers

Pastor William Kumuyi, the Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has advised voters across the country to think about their future and vote for credible candidates in the 2023 elections.

Kumuyi gave the advice to newsmen in Rivers State's Khana Local Government Area, ahead of the Deeper Life Bible Church's week-long crusade in the area.

The Birabi Memorial Grammar School in Bori will host a global crusade themed 'Supernatural freedom through Christ.'

Punch reports that the cleric urged those in positions of power to be fair to voters and follow democratic principles in order to be at peace with themselves and the people.

"Our future is in our hands, that is why we have democracy, and that is why we were given the opportunity to know our candidates, both at the local government, state, and federation levels," Kumuyi said.

"And since we want the best and have been dreaming and expecting the best for our country, it's in our best interests to talk to ourselves and be at peace, so that we can have a peaceful and fair election."

The respected cleric emphasized the importance of a peaceful environment that allows electorates to freely choose those they want to lead them, while also emphasizing the importance of the country remaining united.

"We must give everyone the opportunity to freely elect the person he believes will do the best for our community and our country. So, I will say that we should maintain the country's unity and peace, and strive to hold the election in a peaceful environment.

"We should pray to God for the best leaders to lead our country out of whatever challenges we face and into greater blessings for our country."

He explained that the global crusade was organized to pray for the country's peace.

Kumuyi described the flooding that has ravaged several communities and displaced thousands in various parts of the country as a serious problem and expressed sympathy to those affected.

"It is a very serious problem, and we identify with and sympathize with all those affected by the flood."

"However, Mr. President has given orders to all the various authorities in charge of handling the flood crises to provide a solution within the next 90 days, and I pray that God will give all those in charge, technically and politically, the wisdom and know-how to prevent such things from happening again in the future."

"What has happened has already happened, and then the Federal Government and all well-meaning people should rise up to see how they can help those who have been devastated by the flood," Kumuyi added.

Prominent stakeholder and leader in Ogoni land.

Speaking to journalists, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, the member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed delight that the crusade would have a positive impact on Ogoni land, which has been plagued by cult activities.

"I feel fulfilled and happy to receive him in Ogoni land, especially because this land has been in crisis, a lot of killings have been carried out here over the years due to cult activities," Dekor said.

2023: Who Says Easterners Cannot Be Nigeria's President - Pastor, Enenche

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, has questioned why a south-easterner can't be Nigeria's president.

He said this as the nation prepares to elect political office holders in the 2023 election and intrigues still surround the zone who should produce the nation’s next president.

In a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Eneche said, “What is wrong if it is narrowed down for example to the southeast? A people who have felt marginalised and oppressed for a long time. Who said that an easterner cannot be a president of Nigeria? What did they do? What is the offence? Who said it? Where was the law made from?

“Go to the South-East once. Those who have gone before are also clamouring to go again as if some people are not a people. Such uselessness is also happening in some states.”

2023: Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christan ticket is a difficult and slippery area ‐ Kumuyi

2023: Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christan ticket is a difficult and slippery area ‐ Kumuyi

BY: NewsPeddlers

William Kumuyi, the founder and general superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, says political leaders must ensure that their decisions are in the interest of all Nigerians.

Mr Kumuyi gave the advice while addressing reporters on Wednesday in Ilorin, shortly after he paid a courtesy call on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara.

According to him, our political leaders need to make enough findings before arriving at a conclusion, especially on the fielding of either Muslim-Muslim ticket or Christian-Christian ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

“The Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christan ticket is a difficult and slippery area.

“So, what I will say is that the political office holders should look at the heartbeat of the country as well as the desires of the people.

“Politicians should know that they are not there for themselves. They are there for all of us. They should ask and make their researches about what the country wants.

“They should ask and make their researches on what the country wants, what the people want; if they listen to the people, we will be confident that they will listen to us when they get there,” he said.

On the prevailing security challenges in the country, the cleric lauded the security agents for doing their best.

He said that the security agents were doing their best, adding that Nigerians shouldn’t relent in praying for them.

“In every area of life, I will say there’s room for improvement.

“I want to credit the officers who are putting their lives on the line to secure the whole country.

“We should be praying for them that God will give them more wisdom and visible victory over the security of Nigeria.

“I will be praying for everyone at the end of every ministration for their desires, aspirations and blessings.

“God is our Creator, whether we are Muslims or Christians or whatever religion you belong to, we are creatures of God. God is interested in blessing everyone. I am here to be a blessing to everyone.

“There will be empowerment programme for all youths across religious divides as it is meant to redirect the focus of youths for positive future endeavours,” Mr Kumuyi said.

BREAKING: IPOB Gives Reason Why Kumuyi Should Not Come To Abia

BREAKING: IPOB Gives Reason Why Kumuyi Should Not Come To Abia

BY: NewsPeddlers

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has given reasons why the General Superintendent of Deeper life Ministry Pastor William Kumuyi should not hold the planned crusade in Aba, Abia State.

In a statement from The Nation and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB explained criminals, operating as gunmen, could infiltrate the crusade with government turning around to blame it on the group.

The group advised him not to go ahead with the crusade because of the security situation in the Southeast.

It however advised the cleric and other pastors to pray for an end to insecurity and its sponsors in the zone as well as demand justice for late Deborah Yakubu and the release of Leah Shuaibu.

The statement reads in part: “We wish to advise Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper life Ministry to take note of the security situation in the South East as he comes to Aba for his gospel crusade.

“Let him and the organisers of the crusade make sure that nothing happens. The security of this region is not good because of political and criminal activities, therefore we advise him to stop this crusade for security reasons.

“IPOB will not allow anyone to die because of this crusade scheduled to hold in Aba. The operation of criminals operating as unknown gunmen infiltrating the events is high and they will blame it on IPOB.

“We ask him to pray for an end to the insecurity in Biafra land if he can. We charge Christians and men of God in Biafra land to engage God in fervent prayers to expose all those behind the insecurity in our land.

“The double faced Nigeria security agencies only managed to arrest two of her Killers because they are Muslims but if it were to be in Biafra land all the youths on the street will be in police cell by now while the unlucky ones would have been killed.

“How many Igbo or Christian lawyers came to defend our Leader fighting for the freedom of all Biafrans but 34 Muslim lawyers have come in defense of killers of Deborah Yakubu? Is it not time Christians and Men of God woke up to the realities in Nigeria?

“They should support Biafra and Oduduwa agitators in their bid to free Biafra and Oduduwa republics from the Islamic bondage in Nigeria so that they will enjoy freedom of worship in both republics.

“Leah Shuaibu is still in captivity today because she is a Christian but all the Muslims abducted along with her have since been freed. Christians must support IPOB to liberate them from bondage in Nigeria.

“Kumuyi should also pray against wicked Leaders and saboteurs in Biafra land and Nigeria. They are the real problems of the people. Let him use the opportunity to pray against the powers holding people captive in Nigeria in his church in Lagos.”

UPDATE: Lagos Government seals collapse Deeper Life Church in Badagry, victims appreciate

Collapse Deeper Life Church in Badagry

The Lagos state government had sealed the collapsed Deeper Life church and the victims appreciated the support of the Church for taking full responsibility in treating the victims.

NewsPeddlers had earlier reported the collapse of a Deeper Life Church on April 24 in Iragbo, Badagry Lagos state, where about six members were fatally injured.

In response to the incident, the state government sent officials from Lagos State Building Control Agency to investigate the incident, seal the premises and prohibit any religious activity there.

A resident close to the premises told NewsPeddlres that, the week the incident happened about three groups of Lagos State officials came to the premises to seal the area.

A classified source who speaks with NewsPeddlers said the general overseer of Deeper Life Bible Church, Dr. Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi has queried the relevant authorities who are supposed to monitor the construction of the building, which includes the church building committee and some district coordinators. Calling them to explain how and why the incident occurred.

Immediately after NewPeddlers reported the incident, there were several calls to retract the report but the platform being so passionate about the well-being of the victims kept the report in circulation.

Further investigation disclosed that all the victims except the young girl who broke her femur(lapse bone) are now in a stable condition.

The parent of the girl said the treatment will take three months for her to fully recover.

“We appreciate the effort of the Church if not, I don’t think a can afford the cost to treat my daughter if the church had not helped us. We thank God she is now in stable condition, but the doctor said it’ll take three months for her to be healed,” her father said

“The church has tried for us, the girl has been really useful to me. She always helps me sell fish since age is not on my side any longer. Since the incident the mother has been with her there,” the ground mother said.

Mr. Topohozin Tunde who was also a victim, thank the church for the support and that the church shouldn’t forget the promise they made.

“I thank God and also the church for their support so far. They said they are going to make some provisions for those that were injured but we have not seen anything,” He said.
