In a powerful spiritual response to the escalating bloodshed in Benue State, Nigeria’s Catholic Bishops have launched a nine-day prayer crusade for divine intervention.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) announced the nationwide prayer initiative, urging all faithful and people of goodwill to join in daily recitations of the Rosary and special supplications for peace.

The prayer campaign, which began Sunday, will culminate in a special Mass on June 29 across all dioceses, seeking God’s mercy for victims, the conversion of killers, and lasting peace in the troubled region. Archbishop Lucius Ugorji of Owerri and Bishop Donatus Ogun of Uromi emphasized the need for spiritual warfare against the “barbaric acts” devastating Benue communities.

This spiritual intervention follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue, where he established a reconciliation committee to address the deadly clashes. The bishops revealed the Church has already delivered emergency aid to affected communities and plans solidarity visits to offer hope.

“To our suffering brothers and sisters in Benue the Church stands with you,” the bishops declared, while applauding Nigerians speaking out against the violence.

The nationwide prayer movement underscores the Church’s dual approach combining spiritual warfare with humanitarian action to confront Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
