Hon. Bonu Solomon The House Assembly Member representing Badagry Constituency I and Chairman House Committee on Tourism, Art, and Culture has assured Badagry residents that Badagry religious tourism sites will be improved to become the Jerusalem of Nigeria.
He disclosed this on Monday, 23rd December 2024, at the celebration of Christmas in Badagry, held at the Agia Tree site where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria.
Bonu told the crowd at the event that "if the leaders of your church have not visited Badagry, they have not completed their religious assignments.".
He said it has always been his dream to turn Badagry into a religious pilgrimage centre because "this is where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria in 19 23, so we have to change the narratives by letting the world know so that we can turn Badagry into where people will visit for pilgrimage."
"Now that infrastructures are coming up as part of what the governor is doing, I can assure you that from the 1st quarter of next year, all our tourism sites in Badagry will be revisited, and we're going to reconstruct all of them. By the time we do that, you will see people moving down to Badagry," he added.
He appreciated the Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the approval of religious celebration and promoting tourism in Badagry, Lagos State.
Bonu promised to bring more artists to Badagry as the people were thrilled with the performance of Okiki Ola, the gospel singer who performed at the event.
