Tande Semeton |
Tande Semeton, 9th Speaker, National Association of Badagry West Students (NABWES) has launched the NABWES official website to create a central digital platform for connecting members, providing vital information, and streamlining key bursary processes.
The website was launched on March 1st, 2025, at the inauguration of the new executives held at Suntan, Beech Hall, Badagry, Lagos State.
Semeton said, "Over time, NABWES has evolved in membership and activities, yet one challenge that remained was the lack of a centralized digital platform to connect our members, provide vital information, and streamline key processes in bursary application. Our students faced significant difficulties while trying to apply for the bursary provided by our capable Executive Chairman, Hon. Gbenu Hennugbe Joseph.
"The manual process required candidates to travel to the secretary’s office to obtain forms, take them to their schools for endorsement, and then return to the council for screening. This process has, unfortunately, hindered and deprived many students from participating, as school authorities are not always available to sign the forms promptly and the distance location of some schools is also a barrier to participating in the bursary application.
"As a leader and a firm believer in innovation, I took it upon myself to find a solution. At this stage of our association’s growth, it became clear to me that NABWES needs a website a platform that will ease the burdens of our students and improve efficiency in our operations. This vision led to the birth of the NABWES website.
This website it is a multifunctional platform designed to serve all NABWES members effectively.
Key Features of the NABWES Website
1. Blog Section – This section provides members with the latest news, updates, and developments within NABWES. Whether it’s an important announcement, a new policy, or updates from our executives, this blog will keep all members informed.
2. Event Section – NABWES hosts various events throughout the year, and this section allows members to register for upcoming programs easily.
3. About Section – Many students are unaware of the history of NABWES. This section details the birth and growth of our association, helping members understand the foundation upon which we stand.
4. Council Section – Transparency is key to good leadership. This section features the full list of the Executive Council and Parliamentary Council members, making it easier for students to know their representatives and reach out when necessary.
5. Dues Payment Section – This section enables students to pay their dues online, ensuring accountability and convenience.
This website is not just a digital platform; it is a game changer. One of its most significant features is the seamless bursary application system. "If our proposal is considered by the Local Government, this platform will eliminate stress and delay by allowing students to apply for bursaries online."
The bursary application system is designed to ensure transparency and accountability. With this system: Students can register online, eliminating unnecessary travel and paperwork. The Bursary Committee will have a structured workflow, allowing thorough review of applications in stages: ICT Department - Councilors - HOD - Bursary Chairman. A committee can authenticate studentship online with each institution's database, reducing cases of fraud and misrepresentation.
"With this website, we are embracing technology to serve students better. No longer will students be frustrated by delays or denied opportunities due to administrative bottlenecks. This is a step towards efficiency, transparency, and accessibility," he added.

120 Miters road construction in Owode-Apa Badagry |
The contractor working on Owode-Apa road in Badagry, Lagos State has recalled workers back to site after the report made by News Peddlers on Wednesday.
It was earlier reported that the federal government of Nigeria plans to commission an uncompleted Owode-Apa road in Badagry, Lagos State.
The contractor who told the workers that the work had ended as of yesterday evening later called the workers back on site, that the residents of the area have gotten information on their plans.
A resident who spoke with News Peddlers said he saw the workers moving equipment from the site yesterday, and commuters were raining curses on them, but he noticed that after some time the equipment was moved back on site.
The 120-meter construction that is ongoing was all the contractor intended to lay asphalt on at midnight today and would end the construction. This is contrary to what Hon. Sesi Whingan, the House of Representatives Member representing Badagry federal constituency, said in a stakeholder meeting held at ASCON in 2024, that the road will be re-awarded and that it is going to be a concrete road.
The border road is about 15 kilometers to the border of Benin Republic, which was awarded nine years ago with the sum of N4 billion, and nothing was done on the road until 2022 to 2023, when about one kilometer was constructed from Gbaji to Afowo, before it was abandoned for over a year.
The 120 meters of construction ongoing was commenced Saturday, February 15th, 2025, and the Federal Ministry of Works visits the site, taking videos and photos to document the ongoing project, which is expected to be commissioned next week.
A top government official who spoke with News Peddlers said, "Some undisclosed amounts of funds were released for the commencement of the project recently. That was what led to what people are seeing and that the road wouldn't be commissioned anytime soon. It's just that they will abandon it again, and that the pictures and videos that they saw them take were just to prove that the project was done."
A concerned indigen who spoke with News Peddlers on phone said, "How can they commission a road like that, a road that half of it is not yet constructed, even the constructed parts do not have drainage or street lights? I want to believe all they are doing is the usual play they have been playing on that road over time.
"But this is unfair to the good people of Badagry, the suffering on that road is too much." He pleaded with relevant stakeholders to rise up for Badagry people this time.

Airtel Nigeria, a telecommunications company, announced the launch of an eSIM, embedded SIM, a digital SIM that provides customers with the same functionality as a physical SIM, on Tuesday.
Airtel confirmed this in a statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria.
eSIM stands for embedded Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), which is a type of programmable Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) that is embedded directly into a device.
eSIM was introduced in 2016, succeeding the now-popular Nano SIM, which was introduced in 2012. The Samsung Gear S2 was the first device to accept an eSIM card.
Because the eSIM is so adaptable, it can be integrated into smartphones, wearables such as smartwatches, and any smart device.
It is a piece of software that can be activated by any cellular network provider anywhere in the world.
The eSIM prevents data loss because whatever was programmed into it during the registration process can be reprogrammed to another cellular network at any time.
It saves a lot of money that would otherwise be spent on roaming while in another country.
According to Airtel, the eSIM has several advantages over traditional SIM cards, including the ability to be set up quickly and easily online.
Airtel stated that it had created a simple and flawless process for all of its customers to activate the eSIM service.
It was stated that the telco believed that the digital SIM would significantly improve Nigerian productivity and assist stakeholders in achieving personal and professional goals.
"We are always at the forefront in championing technological advancement and creating innovative platforms and opportunities that will make life better for all those in our stakeholder value chain," said Femi Oshinlaja, Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria.
"With eSIM, we are not only bringing the latest technology to the fingertips of our customers, but we are also focusing on our sustainability goals of digital inclusion and environmental best practises as no plastic is involved with eSIM.
"As a result, we are committed to continuing to develop offerings that will broaden and deepen our digital footprints in line with everything mobile Internet, digital, and home broadband," he said.

2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Dashboard |
Mercedes-Benz (MBGn.DE) said on Thursday that it plans to invest billions of euros to build 10,000 fast-charging stations in North America, Europe, and China by 2030.
The carmaker will begin construction in North America this year, with the goal of having 2,500 charging points in 400 locations across most U.S. states and Canada by 2027, according to a statement made at the CES car show in Las Vegas, which runs from January 5-8.
It will split the required investment for North America by 2030 with Goldman Sachs spinoff MN8 Energy, a renewable energy producer and battery storage operator, and is partnering with charging network company ChargePoint for technological know-how.
MN8 CEO Jon Yoder stated that the company expects to turn a profit within five to seven years, possibly sooner if subsidies are received or utilisation rates are higher than expected.
Discussions with potential network partners in Europe and China are ongoing.
According to National Renewable Energy Laboratory data from July 2022, the United States has around 140,000 public EV chargers.
According to surveys, consumers all over the world are discouraged from purchasing EVs due to a lack of charging infrastructure.
In Europe, where Mercedes-Benz is already a partner in the Ionity charging joint venture with Volkswagen (VOWG p.DE), BMW (BMWG.DE), Ford (F.N), and Hyundai, infrastructure is further along, with around 375,000 charging points expected to be available by the end of 2021, according to a McKinsey study.
Nonetheless, the region will require at least 3.4 million charging points by 2030 to meet expected increases in demand, according to the study.
Separately, Mercedes-Benz has applied for Level 3 automated driving certification in California and Nevada, allowing its electric vehicles to take over driving at up to 60 kilometres per hour on suitable highway sections or in dense traffic, the company also announced at the CES car show.

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has assured the public that the new Fifth Generation network, also known as 5G, will not harm their health.
Ogbonnaya Ugama, the NCC's Enugu Zonal Controller, made the clarification in Enugu on Saturday during a round table discussion with members of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFEs).
Mr. Ugama stated that there was no convincing evidence that emissions from electromagnetic devices, such as cellphones, were harmful to the body.
According to him, international bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) have established a threshold of no solid evidence that 5G causes negative health effects in humans and animals.
However, the controller advised users not to hold these electromagnetic devices, such as cellphones, too close to their bodies if they had any doubts.
"The NCC will do everything possible to ensure the safety of the citizens and the approval of all equipment that meets set standards," he said.
Mr. Ugama emphasized the benefits of the 5G network, stating that it was designed to increase speed, reduce latency, and improve wireless service flexibility.
"5G has a theoretical peak speed of 20 Gigabytes per Second (GBPS), whereas 4G has a peak speed of one GBPS."
"5G has the potential to transform Nigeria's economy," he said, citing its projected impact in education, finance, security, agriculture, healthcare, entertainment, and even governance.
Nigeria was revealed to be the third country by the controller.

"5G has the potential to transform Nigeria's economy," he said, citing its projected impact in education, finance, security, agriculture, healthcare, entertainment, and even governance.
Nigeria was revealed to be the third country by the controller.

Apple is not permitted to sell iPhones in Brazil without a charger, according to the country's government.
Additionally, it levied a fine of 12.28 million reais, or roughly $2.4 million, against the American tech giant for what it called "discriminatory practices."
"The immediate suspension of the distribution of iPhone brand smartphones, regardless of model or generation," order from the nation's Department of Consumer Protection and Defense stated.
Brazilian authorities noted that Apple claims that the decision to bar chargers from iPhone sales is a result of a "environmental commitment" in an official statement.
Apple's policy, according to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, "has not resulted in an effective demonstration of environmental protection on Brazilian soil," and the company is being accused of "deliberately discriminatory practices against consumers."
"There is no justification for an operation that, in aiming to reduce carbon emissions, leads to the introduction into the consumer market of a product whose use depends on the purchase of another (product) which is also marketed by the company," the official statement added.
Brazilian state agencies have previously fined Apple, but according to the statement, they "did not take any measures to minimize the harm and until now continued to sell the cellular devices without chargers."
According to the official statement, the company has been under investigation in Brazil since December for "the sale of an incomplete product," "discrimination against the consumer," and "the transfer of responsibility to third parties." These charges stem from the company's sale of iPhone 12s and newer models without chargers for power outlets.

Before the iPhone 14 event, here are some more tidbits. The iPhone 14 Pro models will have larger batteries, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter.
This would be Apple's second year in a row increasing battery capacity while improving processor performance. Furthermore, the company appears to be focusing on eSIM technology from the start, rather than physical SIM cards.
This isn't the first time 9to5Mac has reported that the iPhone 14 series' batteries will be upgraded. In June, Twitter user ShrimpApplePro, who has always been able to find rumors about new Apple releases on Chinese social media, shared a post that could confirm the size of the battery in the new regular and pro iPhones.
According to a Baidu post, the standard iPhone 14 could have a 3,279 mAh battery, compared to the iPhone 13, which has a 3,227 mAh battery. The 14 Pro could have a 3,200 mAh battery, as opposed to the 3,095 mAh battery in the iPhone 13 Pro. The 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, would have a slightly smaller battery, with 4,323 mAh compared to the 13 Pro Max's 4,352 mAh.
Although Gurman does not mention the regular iPhone 14 models, it would be very interesting if he is correct about the Pro models receiving a larger battery - something that users always want.
Features of iPhone 14 Pro
Gurman summarized what he expects Apple to introduce with these new iPhones in his final newsletter before the event. He stated that the regular iPhone 14 models will only receive "some camera hardware changes." He concentrated on the iPhone 14 Pro models, writing that he believes the phones will include:

Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that he had been a fan of Liverpool Football Club from childhood.
According to the News Agency Of Nigeria NAN, Kanu disclosed this when his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, complained that the Department of State Services had not been allowing him and other counsel enough time to meet with the IPOB leader whenever they visited him in detention.
After addressing his concern, Nyako jokingly mentioned that she was a fan of Liverpool and asked Ozekhome which club was his favourite. Ozekhome replied that he was also a Liverpool fan.
Nyako then asked Kanu if he was a fan of Chelsea Football Club given his penchant for the designer outfit he kept wearing to court.
Kanu responded, “My team is Liverpool even from age of seven.”
The judge then told the DSS legal director who was in court to allow Kanu to watch the matches of his favourite football club.
Meanwhile, the judge observed that Kanu had continued to show up in court in the same attire despite her order for him to change clothes.

As the South China Morning Post
reports,
new COVID-19 cases in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou have led the local
government to impose a lockdown lasting until at least next Tuesday.
Unfortunately for Foxconn (and Apple), Zhengzhou is home to a huge
manufacturing complex.
Will Apple be able to
launch the iPhone 14 on time? That's the question being asked today after the
world's largest iPhone factory was forced to suspend hiring.
The timing is
especially unfortunate as earlier this week Foxconn announced and was reported PC
mag, it was going to boost the recruitment of assembly line personnel by
offering larger cash bonuses of $1,286 (up from $983). Instead, Foxconn has now
suspended recruitment until further notice. Not only can the company not fill
the new roles it needs for production, it's unclear how much of existing
production can continue, but Foxconn does have its own campus in Zhengzhou.
The need to speed up
recruitment and attract more workers is thought to be in response to Apple
preparing for iPhone 14 production. Apple uses a number of contract suppliers,
but relies on each one to hit production targets in the months leading up to an
iPhone launch.
With Foxconn producing
up to 80% of the world's iPhones in Zhengzhou, combined with manufacturing
pauses it has little control over, will Apple have to delay the iPhone 14
launch this year? There are still several months before the expected September
release, but how many more lockdowns will China impose before then?

Apple
is reportedly developing a new TV accessory that combines elements of its Apple
TV with a HomePod speaker and camera for video calls, according to a new
report from The
Verge. Alongside it, Apple is also said to be working on a smart
speaker with a display, similar to Amazon’s Echo Show or Google’s Nest Hub. Development of both devices is said to be in its
early stages, with plans subject to change.
It
was gathered by The Verge that, The unannounced TV accessory would have the
hardware to fulfill a variety of roles. As a TV accessory it could offer access
to games and the streaming video services supported by Apple TV today; while
its built-in speaker would likely be an upgrade over those found in most TV
sets, similar to Roku’s soundbars.
It would also support HomePod features like music playback and Siri voice
assistant controls, much like the Sonos Beam offers with Alexa and
Google Assistant. Finally, the camera would let it serve as a video calling
device like a Facebook Portal TV. It’s potentially a lot of functionality in a single Apple device.
The
second device is a smart display similar to what competitors Amazon and Google
already offer, combining features of an iPad and HomePod. Apple’s work on the device was
previously reported by Bloomberg last month. Like the TV accessory, this device would also
offer video chat features, but via its built-in screen rather than a connected
TV. Apple is said to have explored using a robotic arm to rotate the display
and track users, similar to Amazon’s 2020 Echo Show.
While
Apple’s existing
smart home devices have focused on one or two key areas, the functionality
offered by the two rumored devices would be much broader. The Verge notes
that Apple merged its HomePod and Apple TV engineering groups in 2020.
The
Verge also uncovered that Apple’s smart home
lineup could use a shot in the arm. The company hasn’t updated its Apple TV hardware
lineup since 2017, and it recently discontinued its high-end
HomePod to focus on the more affordable HomePod mini. A hardware
update for the Apple TV has been rumored for several months now, and
recently discovered code suggests it might include support for 120Hz
refresh rates.

iPhone
12 models actually have worse battery life than their predecessors after Apple
equipped them with smaller batteries than the iPhone 11 range. Second, LTPO
enables a variable refresh rate of between 1Hz and 120Hz so iPhone users are
finally going to enjoy the high refresh rates that have proved popular on
Android devices for the last few years - but without the excessive battery
drain it had caused. Apple is expected to market this high refresh rate as
‘ProMotion’, something it introduced on iPad Pros several years ago though they
are still using LCD panels.
Apple’s
iPhone 13 range has a new design and an improved features on the previous model
iPhone 12. Now a new exclusive has revealed what, for many, will be its biggest
upgrade.
Following
up its recent iPhone 13 production revelations, Forbes states that Apple’s new
smartphone range will be up to 20% more power-efficient than the iPhone 12
models - a massive upgrade. And the site also reveals the primary reason for
that power saving: next-generation displays.
Forbes
states Apple partners Samsung Display and LG Display are currently converting
their iPhone production lines from LTPS OLED, used in the iPhone 12
range, to LTPO OLED. This “completed in the first half of 2021” explains Forbes
source. LTPO OLED displays have been rumored for some time, but this is the
first time we have heard about the extent of the power saving they will help to
bring.
And
there are further reasons to be excited about the battery life of the iPhone 13
line-up. Alongside LTPO displays, they will have more efficient next-gen 5G
modems and the company’s A15 chip, which will bring increased performance and
reduced power draw.
It
isn’t all about efficiency though, iPhone 13 leaks have also revealed Apple’s
plans to reduce the notch (at last!), boost WiFi speed and range, overhaul the
camera experience and introduce an improved version of MagSafe.
