APC Questions INEC's Recognition of ADC, Calls for Issue-Based Politics

APC Questions INEC's Recognition of ADC, Calls for Issue-Based Politics

 By: Manoah Kikekon

INEC chairman and ADC

The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a sharp critique against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labeling its official recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a "hollow victory."

While formally congratulating the ADC, the APC alleges the party's emergence was marred by "undemocratic, underhanded tactics," claiming INEC has merely "placed a legal stamp on a house built on sand."

In a statement by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the ruling party issued a direct warning to the ADC to avoid "premature campaigns" for the 2027 general elections, which it views as an act of "desperation and disregard for law and order."

The APC contrasted its own focus on building infrastructure and economic reforms with what it calls the ADC's tendency to build "excuses," issue press statements, and thrive on "empty noise."

Despite its criticisms, the APC stated that the recognition allows the ADC to build a structure based on "transparency and principles." The party challenged the ADC to evolve into a credible opposition that offers "realistic policy alternatives" instead of "bitter rhetoric."

The statement concluded by advising the ADC to channel its energy into "issue-based politics, constructive engagement, and adherence to the rules of the game" as the political landscape evolves.

Fulani Herder Wrecks N5m Farm in Badagry, Issues Death Threat to Owner

Fulani Herder Wrecks N5m Farm in Badagry, Issues Death Threat to Owner

By: Manoah Kikekon

BADAGRY, LAGOS STATE – A Fulani herder and his cattle have been accused of destroying a four-acre farm valued at over five million Naira in the Sungai Farm area of Avia, Badagry

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has escalated into a security threat, with the herder allegedly vowing to kill the farm's owner upon his release from police custody.

Over 400 cows unleashed on the farmland, ruthlessly trampling and consuming vital crops. The farm, owned by Nofiu Fiyakola, was a source of livelihood, growing staples including Cassava, Tomatoes, Plantain, Maize, Ugu (fluted pumpkin), and Peppers. The invasion has resulted in a total loss of the season's harvest, dealing a crippling financial blow to the farmer and his family.

The situation took a more sinister turn following the herder's apprehension. According to the victim, Mr. Fiyakola, the suspect issued a direct death threat. “After arresting the Fulani herder, he threatened to come back and kill me upon his return from police custody,” Fiyakola stated.

“The major thing now is not even the crops they destroyed but the safety of my life and my family. I'm pleading with the good people of Badagry to intervene for the safety of me and my family.” His account points to a climate of fear where personal safety has become a more immediate concern than agricultural loss.

Further investigations reveal that this is not an isolated incident. The same herder has been identified as a persistent threat to the agrarian community in Avia, Badagry. Another local farmer, who chose to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal, recounted a similar violent encounter. “Last year, this same herder destroyed my farm. While attempting to arrest him, he brought out a knife to attack me, and that was how he escaped with his cows,” the farmer recalled. This pattern of behavior suggests a recurring challenge of farmer-herder clashes in the area.

When contacted for official comment, Oluwasegun Akinyele, the Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) of the Ikoga Police Station, confirmed that the incident was reported and is being looked into. However, he maintained that the matter remains under active investigation. “We cannot comment on the matter until the investigation is concluded,” Mr. Akinyele stated.

LASU Don, Thovoethin, Takes Badagry for Governor to Royal Palace, Unveils Strategic Agenda

LASU Don, Thovoethin, Takes Badagry for Governor to Royal Palace, Unveils Strategic Agenda

By: Manoah Kikekon

BADAGRY, LAGOS – Professor Paul-Sewa Thovoethin of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday visited the revered palace of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi 1, to get the blessings of the royal father as he begins a grassroots movement advocating for an indigene of Badagry Division to become the next Governor of Lagos State in 2027.

The professor, spearheading the "Badagry for Governor" advocacy, was warmly received by the Akran and his council of chiefs, marking a crucial step in uniting traditional stakeholders under a common vision for the division's political future. This high-level meeting underscores the growing consensus that the time is ripe for Badagry to produce the state's chief executive.

During the meeting, Professor Thovoethin passionately articulated his dream, highlighting the urgent need for a unified path forward for the Badagry Federation. He emphasized that his visit was to receive the royal father's blessings and the council's strategic advice as he mobilizes support across the state, focusing on integrated political, economic, and social development strategies for the region.

Responding on behalf of the throne, the Depegan of Badagry Kingdom, Chief T.W Giro, acknowledged that the clamour was long overdue and expressed the royal fathers' delight in seeing a distinguished son and professor leading the charge. However, he offered crucial advice, noting that the endeavor is financially intensive and must be media-driven. He sternly warned against allowing partisan political interests to fracture the movement, stressing the importance of absolute unity.

In a briefing with journalists after the engagement, Professor Thovoethin revealed the depth of his strategy. “We need one voice to achieve this, and that is why I've taken my time to meet relevant stakeholders. I'm happy that someone has even shown interest, which is very commendable,” he stated, hinting at burgeoning support within influential circles that could translate the long-held aspiration into a tangible reality.

To solidify the mission, Professor Thovoethin presented a formal development proposal to the Akran, outlining a robust, multi-phased agitation plan. The comprehensive strategy includes extensive media awareness campaigns across print, electronic, and digital platforms, the consistent release of policy documents to shape public discourse, and the active mobilization of Badagry-based Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and public opinion builders to champion the cause relentlessly until 2027.

National Assembly Stops Senator Natasha's Return

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Despite her six-month suspension officially concluding, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been formally blocked from resuming her duties by the National Assembly. The lawmaker representing Kogi Central had notified the senate leadership of her intent to return, citing the expiration of her suspension term.

The response from the office of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria, was clear: resumption is impossible while the matter is subjudice. The letter states that because the suspension is a active subject at the Court of Appeal, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate her return until the judicial process is fully completed.

The communication emphasized that the Senate itself must formally review the suspension in light of the court's final pronouncement before any decision is made. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will be notified of the Senate's decision "as soon as it is resolved."

This continues a pattern of denial; a previous attempt by the Senator to resume on July 12th, following a Federal High Court judgment, also saw her denied entry into the National Assembly complex.

Fegho John Umunubo

In a sudden move that has sent ripples through Nigeria's political circles, the State House announced the immediate disengagement of Fegho John Umunubo, a key media aide to Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The announcement was made official on Monday via a statement signed by State House spokesperson, Abiodun Oladunjoye. The statement provided a clear and direct notification to the public and key stakeholders.

The government's communiqué explicitly warned that Umunubo "no longer represents this administration in any capacity." It further issued a stern caution, stating that anyone who interacts with him under the guise of the Tinubu administration does so "at his or her own risk."

Notably, the official statement did not disclose the specific reasons behind the sudden dismissal of the Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy. The lack of a cited reason is likely to fuel speculation regarding the circumstances leading to this decisive action from the Tinubu government.

Nigerian President Seeks U.S. Court Shield Against "Political" FBI File Release

Nigerian President Seeks U.S. Court Shield Against "Political" FBI File Release

By: Manoah Kikekon

Bola Tinubu

In a significant legal move, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has petitioned a U.S. court to enforce an order protecting his confidential records held by American law enforcement agencies.

The motion, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, aims to prevent the release of files sought by a U.S. activist, framing the request as a political weapon rather than a legitimate inquiry.

President Tinubu’s legal team, led by attorney Wole Afolabi, argues that the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from activist Aaron Greenspan are a blatant attempt to expose private information. The filings specifically target the "entire FBI file" on Tinubu and documents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The lawyers contend this violates the core purpose of FOIA, which is to shed light on government conduct, not to air the personal details of individuals.

The motion leverages key U.S. privacy laws, including the Privacy Act and FOIA Exemption 7(C), designed to protect law enforcement records from unwarranted invasions of personal privacy. Tinubu's counsel asserts that even as a public figure, the Nigerian president retains fundamental privacy rights, a principle upheld by past U.S. court precedents for government officials.

Central to Tinubu's argument is the claim that Greenspan’s motive is to influence Nigerian political disputes by publishing the records on his for-profit website, PlainSite.org. The legal filing stresses that the decades-old files pertain to a time when Tinubu was not a public official and that the "Nigerian public’s interest in an individual is not a basis for a FOIA request" in the United States.

In response, Aaron Greenspan has urged the court to deny the motion, accusing President Tinubu of using his position to target political opposition and critics. The court has not yet issued a ruling on this high-stakes privacy versus transparency case, which is being closely watched on both sides of the Atlantic.

Nigeria's Revenue Soars 40.5%, So Why A Fresh $1.75bn World Bank Loan?

Nigeria's Revenue Soars 40.5%, So Why A Fresh $1.75bn World Bank Loan?

 By: Manoah Kikekon

Bola Tinubu

In a surprising financial move, the Nigerian Federal Government is seeking a new $1.75 billion World Bank loan despite announcing a massive 40.5% surge in revenue for the first eight months of 2025. This decision has sparked a heated debate among economists, questioning the balance between necessary development funding and the nation's rapidly growing debt burden.

The impressive revenue performance, confirmed by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, saw total collections hit a record N20.59 trillion from January to August 2025. This marks a significant jump from the N14.6 trillion collected in the same period last year, driven overwhelmingly by a 75% contribution from non-oil revenues, aligning with the government's economic diversification goals.

Despite this revenue boom, Nigeria faces critical funding gaps, particularly in infrastructure and capital projects. This shortfall was starkly highlighted when local contractors protested at the Ministry of Finance, demanding payment for projects worth N4 trillion executed in 2024, underscoring the tension between government income and expenditure.

To bridge these gaps, the government is turning to external borrowing. The World Bank is poised to approve four major loans totaling $1.75 billion before the end of the year, aimed at financing pivotal projects in agriculture, health, digital infrastructure, and support for small businesses.

The loan package includes $500 million for the Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Value-Chains for Growth project, designed to boost productivity and economic diversification. Another $500 million is earmarked for the Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth initiative, seeking to expand the nation's tech sector capabilities.

Furthermore, a $250 million loan for the Health Security Programme in Western and Central Africa, Nigeria – Phase II aims to fortify the country's defenses against health emergencies. An additional $500 million for the Fostering Inclusive Finance for MSMEs in Nigeria project is intended to improve access to capital for small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of the economy.

This new borrowing adds to a substantial existing debt relationship. Data reveals the World Bank approved a staggering $8.40 billion in loans to Nigeria over the past two years (June 2023 - August 2025), funding 15 projects across energy, education, and governance sectors.

Economists are divided on the strategy. Lagos-based economist Adewale Abimbola argues that concessionary loans for viable projects are not inherently bad, stating, “Borrowing isn’t bad; what matters is utilisation.” He emphasizes that the economic impact hinges on effective deployment into projects that generate sustainable growth and strengthen revenue.

In contrast, development economist Dr. Aliyu Ilias expressed strong reservations. He pointed out that the national debt has skyrocketed from N87 trillion to approximately N149 trillion, with debt servicing consuming a crippling portion of revenue. He warned this crowds out capital expenditure, fuels inflation, and worsens foreign exchange imbalances, questioning the need for more debt amid claimed revenue surpluses.

The latest Debt Management Office (DMO) data underscores the concern: Nigeria’s total debt to the World Bank rose to $18.23 billion as of March 2025, now constituting 39.7% of the country's entire external debt stock. As the World Bank's role in Nigeria's financing framework expands, the critical challenge remains ensuring these loans fuel tangible development without leading the nation into a perilous cycle of debt servicing and fiscal distress.

Nigerian Politics is Betrayal; I Was Betrayed in 2015: Jonathan

Nigerian Politics is Betrayal; I Was Betrayed in 2015: Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that the core of Nigerian politics is built on betrayal. Speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Mike Oghiadomhe, a former Edo State deputy governor and his Chief of Staff, Jonathan stated that most politicians in the country are fundamentally untrustworthy.

Reflecting on the historic 2015 presidential election where he was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari, Jonathan revealed he was a victim of severe betrayal. “Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals,” he said. “I witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election. You find it difficult to find somebody who says the same thing in the morning, afternoon, and evening.”

Jonathan used the occasion to highlight the rare virtue of loyalty in the political arena, singling out Mike Oghiadomhe as one of his most trusted allies. He praised Oghiadomhe as “somebody whose word you can take to the bank,” a stark contrast to “most politicians” who constantly change their positions. He even credited Oghiadomhe as being one who would "take a bullet" on his behalf.

This candid speech comes amid widespread speculation about the 2027 presidential election. Reports suggest opposition groups are wooing Jonathan to contest and unseat the current president, Bola Tinubu. His comments on betrayal are seen by many as a poignant commentary on the volatile and unpredictable nature of political alliances in Nigeria.

Badagry Accountability Crusader Olufemi Iroko Vows to Fight On Amid Family Disownment and Threats

Badagry Accountability Crusader Olufemi Iroko Vows to Fight On Amid Family Disownment and Threats

Olufemi Iroko

BADAGRY, LAGOS – Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, a prominent voice demanding government accountability in Badagry, has vowed to intensify his campaign despite being publicly disowned by one branch of the Iroko family and facing numerous threats.

The controversy erupted after the Iroko family of Pohento-Meda quarters in Ajara-Isalu community published a disclaimer letter dated September 2, 2025.

The letter, signed by family head Mr. E.P. Iroko, explicitly stated that “‘Oluwafemi Sewanu Iroko’ is not from their family,” calling him a “misplaced and lost individual” and an “imposter suffering from indigeneship cholera.” The timing of the disclaimer is significant, coming shortly after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) began a probe into the spending of the immediate past chairmen of Badagry LGA, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry West LCDA.

In an exclusive interview, Iroko fiercely rebutted the family’s claims, arguing that the name "Iroko" is not the sole property of one lineage. “Their quarter is Poheto-Meda, my quarter is Depeko-Toyi. A quarter cannot lay a sole claim to a name. There are different Iroko’s everywhere,” he stated, citing the name's prevalence across multiple states. He even recalled a conversation with former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, whose alias was Iroko, who said he “never knew there was IROKO in Lagos state.”

Iroko did not mince words when explaining the motive behind the disownment, directly linking it to his activism and the EFCC probe. “This is coming up because some persons from this particular Iroko family are lobbying to be appointed as local government supervisors and they think my drive to demand for accountability is a stumbling block to their aspiration,” he alleged. He firmly stated that the issue is “solely because of my drive to call for accountability in grassroots governance especially in Badagry.”

The activist revealed that his crusade has come at a personal cost. “I have received various threats because of my drive to demand accountability and this has been reported to the appropriate authorities,” Iroko confirmed. However, he remains defiant and resolute in the face of intimidation. “I am not bothered,” he declared, “all I know is that Badagry will undoubtedly become one of the most desirable locations to live, work and relax, and I will contribute my quota to its development.”

On the specific question of his paternal lineage, Iroko pointed to the Depekoh compound in Ajara-Isalu as his roots, a mere two-minute walk from the Meda compound. He expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved by community elders and stated, “The Depekoh people are proud of their son particularly for his impact.” He concluded with an unwavering promise: “For the records, I will not be gagged and stampeded from demanding the necessary accountability from local government and council bosses.”

An Iroko Family has Disown Badagry’s 'Accountability Crusader' Olufemi Iroko Amid EFCC Probe

An Iroko Family has Disown Badagry’s 'Accountability Crusader' Olufemi Iroko Amid EFCC Probe

BADAGRY, LAGOS – The esteemed Iroko family of Pohento-Meda quarters in Ajara-Isalu community has publicly disowned and severed ties with a self-styled accountability activist, Mr. Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, The disownment comes amid a probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the spending of the immediate past council chairmen in the area.

The family's stance was made official through a strongly-worded "Disclaimer Letter," reference number 01/9/25 and dated September 2, 2025, which was issued to the public. The document aims to unequivocally distance the family's "dignified and honoured" name from the activist's recent high-profile campaigns on Facebook, which have demanded transparency from local government officials.

In the letter, signed by the family head, Mr. E.P. Iroko, the family makes a series of stunning declarations. It states, "That the said 'Oluwafemi Sewanu Iroko' is not a son, neither a grandson nor a great-grandson of Iroko of Ajara-Isalu,"** and insists there is only one authentic lineage. The family categorically denies his indigeneity, asserting, "That his character and name did not emanate from the ONLY AUTHENTIC IROKO FAMILY of Ajara-Isalu."

Mr. Iroko as “a misplaced and lost individual” and “an imposter whom is suffering from indigeneship cholera.” The family accuses him of seeking “undue and cheap popularity” and concludes with the damning statement, “That we, the IROKOS from Ajara-Isalu do not know him from Adam.” They suggest he is a “political jobber” whose paymaster has lost faith in him.

However, in a swift and fiery response, the man at the center of the storm, Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, has dismissed the family's claims as a politically motivated attack. He first corrected the record on his name, stating, “First off, my name is Olufemi Sewanu Iroko and NOT Oluwafemi Sewanu Iroko,” indicating a fundamental error in the family's disclaimer.

He boldly alleged that the disownment is a direct retaliation for his activism. “This is coming up because some persons from this particular Iroko family are lobbying to be appointed as local government supervisors and they think my drive to demand for accountability is a stumbling block to their aspiration,” Iroko claimed. He directly linked the action to his work, stating, “It is solely because of my drive to call for accountability in grassroots governance.”

When addressing his heritage, Iroko remained defiant but offered a different narrative. “There are several compounds and family lineages in Ajara-Isalu as he is from Depekoh-Toyi quarters. This is a family matter and the elders of the community and families will trash it,” he stated, implying a broader familial context than the disclaimer acknowledged. He asserted that his own compound, Depekoh, is proud of his impact and advocacy.

The activist vowed that the public shaming would not silence him. “For the records, I will not be gagged and stampeded from demanding the necessary accountability from local government and council bosses,” he declared. He framed his mission as essential for grassroots development, adding, “The last tier of government is designed to ensure people at the grassroot enjoy the benefits of Government, we will call them out if our people are not getting what is due them.”

The saga highlights the intense pressures often faced by anti-corruption activists at the local level. Iroko revealed, “I have received various threats because of my drive to demand accountability,” but remained resolute. He concluded with a final jab at his detractors, “For the appointment mongers, I wish them the best and may they get the appointment they want from their oppressors,” cementing this dispute as a bitter clash over power, identity, and the right to demand accountability in Badagry.

Badagry for Governor: LASU Professor Visits Badagry West Chairman Ahead 2027

Prof. Paul-Sewa Thovoethin and Ibrahim Rauf

BADAGRY, LAGOS, Prof. Paul-Sewa Thovoethin, a distinguished Professor of Political Science at Lagos State University (LASU), has continued a strategic tour across the Badagry division in a bid to build a formidable grassroots support for the Badagry for Governor agenda an initiative advocating for a native of Badagry to emerge as the next Governor of Lagos State.

As part of this ongoing effort, Prof. Thovoethin on Wednesday visited Hon. Ibrahim Rauf, the Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The meeting, held at the council secretariat, marked his third consultation with council chairmen within the Badagry Federation an intentional grassroots-first strategy aimed at consolidating local political support.

In his remarks, Prof. Thovoethin outlined the strategic vision behind the movement, emphasizing the importance of starting from the base.

“We have all the right considerations by every indices and every argument one could present,” he said. “Some years back, we were neither strategic nor tactical. But now, we want to engage, counter-engage, and act deliberately. Before we move forward, we must begin with local government chairmen and traditional rulers, as they are crucial to this agenda.”

He also linked the renewed momentum to recent political developments, particularly the gubernatorial ambition of Hon. Samuel Ajose, an indigene of Badagry, who Prof. Thovoethin said has automatically keyed in the agenda, and he further encouraged more Badagry indigenes to show interest "the merrier the better," he said.

In response, Chairman Ibrahim Rauf commended the initiative and pledged his support, highlighting the longstanding developmental neglect of the Badagry Federation.

“I’m happy that Samuel Ajose came out. If this can be actualised, it would be a blessing for us,” Rauf stated. “It will bring much-needed development to Badagry, which has remained stagnant for far too long.” He equally made a remark for any contender within Badagry federation.

Rauf also stressed the need for sustained strategy and political engagement to ensure the movement stands a viable chance against contenders from other parts of Lagos.

The Badagry for Governor 2027 movement is rapidly gaining momentum, with growing institutional backing from grassroots leaders. The initiative reflects a deepening sentiment within the division for stronger political representation at the highest level of state governance.

Laurent Freixe and Nestlé

VEVEY, SWITZERLAND – In a sudden and dramatic corporate shake-up, Nestlé, the world's largest food and beverage company, has fired its Chief Executive Officer, Laurent Freixe, for violating the company's code of conduct by having an undisclosed romantic relationship with a direct subordinate.

The Swiss conglomerate announced the immediate dismissal on Monday, citing the results of an internal investigation. The board has appointed veteran company executive Philipp Navratil as its new CEO to steer the company forward.

A Breach of Corporate Governance

The decision underscores the stringent ethical standards major corporations are enforcing at the highest levels. According to an official statement from Nestlé, the investigation was initiated by the Board of Directors and overseen by Chairman Paul Bulcke and Lead Independent Director Pablo Isla, with support from independent outside counsel.

In a statement, Nestlé Chairman Paul Bulcke emphasized that the decision, while difficult, was necessary to uphold the company's core principles.

“Nestlé’s values and governance are strong foundations of our company,” stated Mr. Bulcke. The dismissal signals the board's zero-tolerance approach to violations of its ethical codes, even from its most senior executive.

The board moved swiftly to name a successor, appointing Philipp Navratil, a long-serving Nestlé executive with over two decades of experience within the company. Chairman Bulcke expressed strong confidence in the new leader.

“I am pleased to announce Philipp Navratil as CEO. Philipp is recognized for his impressive track record of achieving results in challenging environments,” said Mr. Bulcke. “Renowned for his dynamic presence, he inspires teams and leads with a collaborative, inclusive management style.”

Conference 57 CPS

BADAGRY, LAGOS – In a significant event aimed at strengthening governance communication, the Conference 57 of Chief Press Secretaries (CPS) to Lagos Local Government Chairmen successfully held a two-day Valedictory Programme and introduction of new members.

The event, which took place on Friday at the prestigious Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in Badagry, highlighted the critical role of media executives in local government administration and set a forward-looking agenda for incoming officials.

The programme served as a formal transition, celebrating the contributions of outgoing Chief Press Secretaries while officially welcoming and orienting new appointees into the fold. The gathering underscored the unique collaborative spirit of the Conference 57, a body renowned for its professionalism and pivotal role in disseminating information across Nigeria's largest metropolitan area.

Emphasizing the indispensability of the CPS role, the host Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, delivered a powerful testimony. “The role of a CPS is quite enormous,” he stated.

“Despite that the information unit is doing a great job, we can't underestimate the job of a CPS. Any chairman without a CPS, I don’t know how he's going to survive; the vacuum you're covering is enormous.” His remarks resonated with attendees, affirming the strategic importance of their work in bridging the gap between council leadership and the citizens.

Kayode Adejumo, a presenter from Faaji FM, represented by Manoah Kikekon, charged the CPS members to uphold the highest standards. “As we move forward, professionalism and integrity must remain our compass,” he advised.

He highlighted the dual nature of the digital age, noting, “We must leverage social media responsibly, counter misinformation, and highlight positive stories.” He also stressed the necessity of continuous learning and building strong networks with media stakeholders.

Mr. Jaji Rasak, a repoalrter fom News Agency of Nigeria, elaborated on the strategic dimensions of the office. “The office of the CPS is more than just press releases and media coverage. It is about agenda setting, public perception management, and building trust between council leadership and the people,” he declared.

He defined the CPS as “the eyes, ears, and voice of the Chairman,” with a critical mandate to shape narratives, highlight government projects, and manage crisis communication to prevent public mistrust.

The Chairman of Conference 57, Kamaldeen Iyanda Abdulsalam, brought the themes together in his keynote address. He first paid tribute to the outgoing members, praising their “resilience and innovation” in bridging the gap between councils and communities and “setting a legacy of excellence.”

Turning to the incoming CPS members, he framed their new roles as both an honour and a profound responsibility, tasking them with shaping public perception and fostering trust through accurate information dissemination.

2027: Lagos Gov Hopeful, Samuel Ajose, Vows to Finance Tinubu's Re-election

2027: Lagos Gov Hopeful, Samuel Ajose, Vows to Finance Tinubu's Re-election

By: Manoah Kikekon

President Bola Tinubu and Samuel Ajose

BADAGRY, LAGOS – In a bold declaration that is set to reshape the political calculus of Lagos State, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, a prominent governorship hopeful, has announced his readiness to personally finance the 2027 re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu within the Badagry Division.

Ajose made this stunning pledge on Thursday during the official launch of the SMA Foundation, a philanthropic initiative aimed at empowering local communities through targeted programs in education, healthcare, and enterprise development.

Addressing a gathering of supporters and community leaders, Ajose declared that the era of Badagry waiting for financial handouts from the state capital for political activities is over. He promised that all funds required for President Tinubu's re-election efforts within the division would be generated locally.

"I have said it that come 2027, for the re-election of President Tinubu, you won't wait for money from the state again. The money we are spending in this division is coming from here. This is to show our readiness to take our rightful place in Lagos State," Ajose stated emphatically.

Moving beyond mere financing, Ajose issued a clarion call for unprecedented unity among all Badagry indigenes, irrespective of their current political affiliations. He framed the 2027 elections as a critical opportunity for the division to leverage its collective strength and negotiate for its rightful place in the state's power structure.

"We all need one voice on this, not minding the political parties or affiliation, as that will help us to negotiate. Come 2027, we must speak with one voice this time," he urged. This call for a unified front suggests a strategic move to consolidate Badagry's voting power as a bargaining tool for greater political and economic inclusion.

Ajose also confronted the pervasive narrative that Badagry lacks the capacity to determine its own political destiny. He acknowledged that internal divisions have been a significant hurdle, stating, "Some are still saying Badagry does not have capacity, and at the same time, Badagrians are the challenge to themselves, which could be partly true."

He argued that this internal disunity has led to a deliberate reduction of the division's influence. "Our capacity has been reduced politically and economically, and that is why we don't have a say in the affairs of this state," Ajose concluded, positioning himself and his new foundation as catalysts to reverse this long-standing marginalization.

The SMA Foundation launch, focused on creating "lasting impact and generational change," is seen as the first step in this broader mission to build socio-economic capacity and, in turn, political capital for the people of Badagry.

GCE and Samuel Mawuyon Ajose

BADAGRY, LAGOS – Samuel Mawuyon Ajose the pioneer SMA Foundation has begun fulfilling a key promise made just days ago. Barely three days after its formal launch, the foundation has disbursed a whopping ₦10.8 million to procure and distribute 400 General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students across the Badagry Federation.

The initiative, spearheaded by the foundation's founder and 2027 Lagos governorship hopeful, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, targets students in Badagry West, Badagry Central, and Olorunda.

This substantial educational support is designed to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure that no student is left behind due to an inability to afford examination fees, marking a powerful start for the newly established NGO.

During the high-profile launch of the SMA Foundation in Badagry, Ajose had publicly pledged that the initiative would commence with robust support for the education of young people in the region. True to his word, he announced that funds have already been released to contractors handling the logistics of the forms' procurement and distribution.

“This is not just a token gesture but the very first activity of the SMA Foundation,” Ajose stated. “We are determined to ensure that no child in Badagry, and indeed all over Lagos State, is left behind in pursuing quality education. This is the beginning of our promise to Lagosians.”

To ensure a smooth and equitable process, the SMA Foundation has released clear guidelines for the distribution of the 400 free GCE forms. Eligibility is strictly reserved for residents of the Badagry Federation, ensuring the support benefits the local community. Current SS3 students must present their latest third-term promotion results, while school leavers are required to provide a recent WAAC or NECO result.

The foundation has strongly emphasized a bias-free process with no discrimination based on gender, religion, or political affiliation, although applicants must be at least 16 years old. The physical screening and distribution will be carried out through the three local councils—Badagry Local Government, Badagry West LCDA, and Olorunda LCDA—between September 1 and 7, 2025.

APC Sweeps Rivers LG Elections in Landslide Victory, PDP Holds Just Three

APC Sweeps Rivers LG Elections in Landslide Victory, PDP Holds Just Three

By: Manoah kikekon

In a stunning political shift, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner in a massive 20 out of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State's latest chairmanship election.

The poll, which was held on Saturday and organized by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), signals a significant blow to the state's ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP managed to secure victories in only three LGAs, a result that underscores a major change in the political landscape of the oil-rich state.

Adding to the shock of the outcome, Governor Siminalayi Fubara suffered a symbolic defeat in his own home constituency. The APC successfully won control of Opobo-Nkoro LGA, the Governor's native local government area.

The official results were announced on Sunday afternoon by RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, at the commission's headquarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt. This decisive outcome is set to reshape the political dynamics in Rivers State ahead of future elections.

Keyamo Throws Down PDP's 2027 Dream to Pick Jonathan or Obi as Presidential candidate

Keyamo Throws Down PDP's 2027 Dream to Pick Jonathan or Obi as Presidential candidate

Festus Keyamo

Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that selecting either former President Goodluck Jonathan or Labour Party's Peter Obi as their 2027 flagbearer would be a catastrophic strategic error.

Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, framed the PDP's position as "non-enviable," tracing its problems to the pivotal decision not to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the Southern part of the country a move he claims eroded its support base in the South-South and South-East.

The minister highlighted a significant legal hurdle for a potential Jonathan candidacy, pointing to Section 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). This clause potentially bars anyone who has been sworn in twice as President from running again.

“If he is fielded, the Party runs the RISK of NOT HAVING A CANDIDATE AT ALL,” Keyamo asserted. He emphasized that this is an untested legal question that would inevitably be decided by the Supreme Court, not public opinion on social media. He warned the PDP would have no one to blame but itself if it ignored this risk and was later disqualified.

Keyamo also dismissed the potential for a candidate from the South-West, arguing that no other region would support a fresh Yoruba candidate eligible for two terms, who would also struggle against the APC's strong machinery in that zone.

On Peter Obi, Keyamo was equally skeptical. He argued that the former Anambra governor rejoining the PDP would alienate his core base of supporters, the 'Obidients'. “The principled ones amongst them will see him as going back to his vomit,” he stated, questioning the authenticity of such a move and its ability to generate sustained, passionate support.

The minister concluded that the PDP's fundamental error was its failure to zone its 2023 ticket to the South. He stated that while young voters may dismiss zoning, it remains the "REALITY of our politics." Barring an "EXTRAORDINARY" event, Keyamo predicted the opposition party may not be a serious contender until the 2031 election.
