Court Nullifies Registration of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as Political Party

Court Nullifies Registration of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as Political Party

By: Manoah Kikekon

LOKOJA, KOGI STATE – The legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has been thrown into uncertainty following a ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which has set aside its previous judgment that had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the entity as a political party.

Presiding Judge Isah Dashen, in his ruling on suit marked FHC/LKJ/CS/49/2025, declared the December 10, 2025, judgment "constitutionally defective." The court noted that the initial proceedings failed to include all necessary parties, a procedural oversight that has now rendered the former decision null and void.

The court’s decision followed a vigorous legal challenge filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP). The PMP argued that it held a significant legal interest in the matter and should have been formally joined as a party before the court issued any directives regarding the NDC's registration.

Justice Dashen upheld the PMP’s application, stating that the applicant had established sufficient interest to be heard. Furthermore, the judge emphasized that material facts were withheld during the earlier proceedings, necessitating the vacation of the previous order to ensure judicial integrity.

As a result of the ruling, the court has ordered a restoration of the status quo as it existed prior to the December 2025 judgment. The substantive suit is now set to begin afresh, with the court mandating that INEC, the Peace Movement Party, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress must all be joined as active participants in the new proceedings.

This development follows earlier controversies regarding the NDC's entry into the Nigerian political arena. In February 2026, INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan had noted that only two out of eight applicants had successfully met the rigorous constitutional and Electoral Act requirements for registration, yet the NDC had secured registration through the initial court mandate that has now been vacated.

The ruling marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing discourse regarding the registration of new political associations in Nigeria, placing the burden back on the judiciary to ensure that the process remains transparent and inclusive of all stakeholders.

Police Apprehend 53 Suspected Members of Deceptive Recruitment Ring in Badagry

Police Apprehend 53 Suspected Members of Deceptive Recruitment Ring in Badagry

BADAGRY, LAGOS – The Nigerian Police Force has taken 53 individuals into custody following an intelligence-led operation in the Badagry area. The group is currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in a recruitment syndicate that reportedly lured job seekers with promises of employment and business opportunities.

The raid, conducted at a facility on Akwuzu Street within the Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), followed reports that the group was operating under the guise of a legitimate medical product enterprise. Authorities are now meticulously profiling each individual to differentiate between those potentially misled and those actively facilitating the syndicate’s operations.

According to preliminary reports, the syndicate specifically targeted unemployed youth and other vulnerable residents. Once recruited, victims were reportedly subjected to intense orientation sessions where they were encouraged to market health products and, crucially, pressure others to join the network a hallmark of pyramid-style schemes.

The Badagry Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Jude Nwokolo, who paraded the suspects on Friday, emphasized that the investigation is focused on transparency and accountability. "The police are profiling every individual to determine their level of involvement before any decision on prosecution is made," Nwokolo stated.

Among those detained is 36-year-old Abdulmalik Aliu, a native of Kogi State, whom investigators believe held a supervisory position within the organization. While Aliu maintained that his activities were lawful and that recruits joined the program of their own volition, the police remain skeptical given the clandestine nature of the orientation sessions.

The operation comes at a sensitive time for Badagry, as security agencies increase their presence to combat a recent surge in criminal networks using remote communities for illegal activities. While this case is separate from recent human trafficking busts in the region, the recurring nature of these incidents has prompted a call for heightened community awareness.

The police are advising members of the public to exercise extreme caution regarding "get-rich-quick" schemes or employment offers that require secrecy or the recruitment of others.

"We urge residents to be cautious of organisations offering unrealistic employment or business opportunities, particularly those requiring attendance at secretive orientation camps," DPO Nwokolo advised. He further urged the public to verify the official registration of any company before committing to a role and to report suspicious gatherings to the nearest police station immediately.

As the investigation continues, the police are working to identify further victims and map out the full extent of the syndicate's operations. The 53 individuals remain in custody as the force works to ensure that those exploiting the vulnerable are held accountable under the law.

Tin Can Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Joseph Anani

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has demonstrated robust fiscal performance, recording a revenue haul of ₦111.2 billion for the month of May 2026. This achievement reinforces the Command’s position as a critical pillar in the nation’s economic framework and a top-performing outpost within the Customs service.

The figure was officially disclosed by the newly appointed Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Joseph Anani, during his maiden engagement with maritime journalists at the Command’s headquarters. Addressing the media, Comptroller Anani lauded the performance as a testament to the collective efforts of the Command’s personnel and the growing compliance of port stakeholders.

Comptroller Anani, who assumed office on May 22, 2026, expressed satisfaction with the Command’s momentum. He emphasized that the revenue growth is not just a statistical milestone but a reflection of the systemic improvements currently sweeping through the nation's ports.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation,” Anani stated during the briefing. “This positive trajectory is a reflection of the dedication of our officers, improved compliance levels, and enhanced operational efficiency. We intend to consolidate on these gains and indeed strive to surpass previous achievements.”

Under Comptroller Anani’s leadership, the Command is doubling down on the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 to guide its enforcement and trade facilitation activities. The Controller reaffirmed that the Command would leverage the Service’s ongoing modernization initiatives, utilizing technology-driven solutions to curb revenue leakages and streamline cargo processing.

“Compliance will remain at the heart of our operations, and enforcement will be firm, fair, and professional,” Anani added. He further urged terminal operators and other maritime industry players to enhance their infrastructure to accommodate increased vessel traffic and maintain the port's competitive edge.

In a move to foster greater transparency, Comptroller Anani identified the media as a strategic partner in the Command’s ecosystem. By pledging to support capacity-building workshops and providing regular access to operational information, he aims to build a culture of open communication and accountability.

“This meeting marks an important step in our deliberate effort to build stronger bridges of understanding and cooperation between the Command and the media,” he noted. “Since assuming office, I have made it a priority to engage continuously with all critical stakeholders in the maritime sector, and the press remains one of the most vital components in that ecosystem.”

The Controller also expressed his appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the trust placed in his leadership. As the Command moves into the second half of 2026, it remains focused on the tripartite mandate of national security, trade facilitation, and sustained revenue generation.

3HF Mobilizes Stakeholders in Lagos to Combat Exploitative Child Domestic Work

3HF Mobilizes Stakeholders in Lagos to Combat Exploitative Child Domestic Work

 By: Manoah Kikekon

IKEJA, LAGOS – The Heart and Hands Humanitarian Foundation (3HF) hosted a Child Rights and Safeguarding Workshop on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos State. The event, supported by the Freedom Fund and the U.S. government, brought together government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community leaders to chart a path toward ending the abuse of vulnerable children.

The workshop served as a rallying point for stakeholders to synchronize efforts in protecting the rights of child domestic workers, ensuring that perpetrators of exploitation are held accountable under the law.

Mr. Samuel Esuola, the project team lead for 3HF, emphasized the organization's commitment to humanitarian service and the empowerment of vulnerable populations. “3HF is a humanitarian organization providing livelihood support and empowerment for vulnerable women and men, protection for children and other marginalized groups across different states in Nigeria,”

“This project is to reduce to the barest minimum the exploitation of child domestic workers in Lagos. We expect all the stakeholders to take the messages to their places of work and communities. Every child deserves a childhood, and their rights should be protected. They should not be exposed to any form of exploitation, as they are our future.”

The keynote address by Mrs. Odimba Gloria of the Office of the Public Defender, who spoke on the complexities of securing justice for child domestic workers. She defined a child domestic worker as any individual under 18 performing household tasks, often in isolated settings that hide abuse from public view.

“The question before us is therefore not merely whether the law protects child domestic workers; it is whether these children can actually access justice when those protections are violated,”

Mrs. Odimba noted. She highlighted systemic barriers such as a lack of legal awareness, fear of retaliation, and the normalization of child labor in various communities. To bridge this gap, she advocated for child-friendly reporting mechanisms, free legal aid, and stronger inter-agency coordination.

Mrs. Agboko Comfort, Lagos Zonal Commander Representing the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), delivered a stern warning to those who exploit children. “When we see any children in our neighborhood being exploited, we should say something.

All forms of insecurity today can be linked to not taking proper care of these children. Those who have domestic workers should treat them well because if they are caught, they will be investigated and prosecuted,” she stated.

Adding the perspective of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Popola Elizabeth of the Directorate of Citizens Rights pointed to the socio-economic roots of the problem. “The major factor causing child exploitation is poverty, as parents who cannot afford to take care of their kids sometimes give them out to others,” she explained.

“The law is totally against giving a child work that is above their age, and anyone found guilty of that will face the law.”

The workshop also featured participation from other key advocates, including Damilola Adenusi, Head of Programs at the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre, and Eduvielawhe Olutimayin, COO of the Street Project Foundation, signaling a unified front in the fight for the safety and dignity of Nigerian children.

Cultural Hangout Festival Engages CBAAC on the Road to FESTAC ’77 @ 50

Cultural Hangout Festival Engages CBAAC on the Road to FESTAC ’77 @ 50

By: Manoah Kikekon

Mrs Aisha Adamu Augie and Mr. Victor Aihawu

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Mr. Victor Aihawu, the pioneer of the Cultural Hangout Festival (CHF), has held a strategic meeting with the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC),Mrs. Aisha Adamu Augie, to explore collaborative pathways for promoting African culture and diaspora engagement. In preparation for the 50th anniversary of the landmark Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC ’77), the conversation was around preserving African heritage.

The high-level discussion centered on a pressing question for modern Africa: How can we ensure that our stories, traditions, and cultural identities remain vibrant and relevant in an era of rapid globalization?

FESTAC ’77 remains the largest Pan-African festival in history, a month-long celebration in 1977 that brought together thousands of artists, performers, and intellectuals from 55 nations to Lagos. As the world approaches the 50th anniversary of this historic event, both Aihawu and Augie emphasized the need to move beyond mere commemoration.

“The road to FESTAC '77 @ 50 is not only about remembering a historic event,” said Aihawu. “It is also about asking how culture can continue to connect people, strengthen communities, and contribute to Africa's future.”

The meeting highlighted the critical role that cultural platforms like the Cultural Hangout Festival play in this ecosystem. Beyond providing entertainment, these platforms serve as vital spaces for people to reconnect with their roots, share experiences, and build lasting relationships across borders.

The dialogue underscored a shared philosophy: culture is not just a relic of the past it is a cornerstone for the future. Mrs. Augie, who has been widely praised for repositioning CBAAC as a dynamic Pan-African heritage hub, and Mr. Aihawu agreed that cultural identity heavily influences how young people see themselves and how nations project their soft power through tourism and the creative economy.

“We often celebrate culture through food, fashion, and entertainment, but culture is also a powerful tool for education, tourism, business, and community development,” Aihawu noted during their engagement.

While the meeting served as an initial exploratory session rather than a formal signing of commitments, it marked a significant step toward a unified approach to cultural development.

The discussions reflected a mutual understanding that the legacy of FESTAC can only be sustained through synergy between government institutions, cultural practitioners, and the global diaspora.

Court Remands Omoyele Sowore to Kuje Prison in Cybercrime Trial

Court Remands Omoyele Sowore to Kuje Prison in Cybercrime Trial

Omoyele Sowore

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The legal battle surrounding human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, took a dramatic turn on Monday, June 22, 2026, as the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his immediate remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Presiding Judge Mohammed Umar issued the remand order following a high-stakes hearing, where he also dismissed an application filed by Mr. Sowore seeking the judge's recusal from the ongoing cybercrime trial on grounds of alleged bias.

The charges, brought forward by the Department of State Services (DSS), stem from an August 2025 social media post in which Mr. Sowore allegedly labeled President Bola Tinubu a “criminal.” The prosecution contends that these posts, made on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, violated Section 24 of the amended Cybercrimes Act of 2024. State counsel, Akinkolu Kehinde (SAN), argues that the statements were knowingly false and intended to incite public disorder.

Mr. Sowore, who has maintained a plea of "not guilty," has consistently characterized the prosecution as an attempt to stifle free speech and intimidate political opposition.

The atmosphere surrounding the trial has been increasingly volatile. On June 16, 2026, Justice Umar revoked Mr. Sowore’s bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after the activist failed to appear for a scheduled defense hearing. While the prosecution labeled his absence a "delay tactic," Mr. Sowore’s team countered that he had previously arrived at the court on June 15, only to find the judge absent without official notice.

In his latest court appearance on June 22, Mr. Sowore was represented by new legal counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), who has filed a motion seeking to stay the execution of the bail revocation and the bench warrant.

For now, Mr. Sowore remains in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre. Justice Umar has adjourned the proceedings until Wednesday, June 24, 2026, when the court is expected to hear the new defense application regarding the status of his bail.

Jubilation in Oyo as Kidnapped Family Regains Freedom After Sunday Igboho’s Ultimatum

Jubilation in Oyo as Kidnapped Family Regains Freedom After Sunday Igboho’s Ultimatum

Sunday Igboho

IGBOHO, OYO STATE — The sleepy town of Igboho in the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State erupted in cheers and celebration this weekend as a kidnapped family, including a pregnant woman, her children, and a sibling, regained their freedom. The emotional homecoming occurred shortly after Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, issued a decisive two-hour ultimatum to local community leaders regarding the abduction.

The incident, which had left the community in a state of heightened anxiety for several days, reached a dramatic turning point on Saturday. Residents were seen in viral social media clips singing and dancing as the victims returned to the safety of their homes.

The release followed a stern, public warning issued by Igboho during a meeting with community representatives and local leaders. Visibly frustrated by what he described as a growing wave of insecurity, kidnappings, and brutal killings in the region, Igboho did not mince words.

In a viral video capturing the confrontation, the activist criticized the alleged failure of local stakeholders to curtail criminal elements within their midst. He specifically addressed rumors of ransom negotiations that turned deadly, referencing the tragic murder of a victim’s relative who had attempted to deliver payment.

“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person,” Igboho stated during the meeting. “Let this be the last time such a thing will happen.”

Setting a firm boundary, he added, “I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. I give you people two hours to release the woman, her children and her sibling... If I don’t see them within the next two hours, we will face each other.”

The abduction had reportedly involved demands for a multi-million naira ransom, initially set at N300 million before being reduced to N150 million. The family’s ordeal had fueled widespread outrage, with many residents pointing to a pattern of recurring attacks on locals.

While the community celebrates the return of the captives, authorities are still working to piece together the full circumstances of the release. The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that they are in possession of the viral footage and have launched a formal investigation into the security threats and the broader allegations of organized kidnapping syndicates operating in the area.

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The future of governance in Lagos State took a bold step forward this week as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, hosted its highly anticipated Youth and Governance Symposium 2.0.

Held at the prestigious Main Auditorium of the University of Lagos, the event served as a powerful rallying point for young leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders dedicated to the theme: “Building the Future of Governance Through Youth Participation.”

Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, headlined the event, joining the Deputy Governor of Lagos State for an insightful Fireside Chat. The symposium, organized under the visionary leadership of Engr. Adigun Olalekan, focused on bridge-building between the state’s political leadership and its vibrant youth population.

A defining moment of the symposium was the official unveiling of the Lagos NYCN Ward Champions. In a direct charge to these emerging leaders, the Deputy Governor emphasized the urgent need for localized action. The Ward Champions are tasked with spearheading community-driven initiatives specifically designed to combat drug abuse and other social vices that threaten the stability of Lagos neighborhoods.

During the event, the Deputy Governor was formally decorated as the Grand Patron of the NYCN, Lagos State Chapter, solidifying the government’s commitment to fostering a collaborative environment for youth-led development.

Reflecting on the success of the gathering, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende emphasized the importance of sustained engagement.

"I sincerely appreciate all our party leaders, distinguished guests, and respected political office holders whose presence and support contributed to the success of the event," said Hon. Ogunlende. "Together, we will continue to create platforms that empower young people, strengthen civic engagement, and advance the development of our dear Lagos State."

The symposium underscored that youth participation is no longer a peripheral goal but a central pillar of the Lagos State government’s agenda. By equipping young leaders with the tools, recognition, and institutional support needed to thrive, the state is effectively laying the groundwork for a more resilient and inclusive political future.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the attendees. As the newly inaugurated Ward Champions prepare to return to their communities, the message from the symposium remains clear: the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but essential partners in the governance of today.

BADAGRY 2027: Barrister Noah Declares for Reps, Promises Federal Medical Center, Free Buses, and Study Abroad Opportunities

BADAGRY 2027: Barrister Noah Declares for Reps, Promises Federal Medical Center, Free Buses, and Study Abroad Opportunities

By: Manoah Kikekon

Medemaku Abayomi Noah

Barrister Medemaku Abayomi Noah (MSc, LLM) has officially declared his intention to run for the House of Representatives, Badagry Federal Constituency, under Peoples Democratic Party PDP. Promised comprehensive "Eighth Mission for Badagry" blueprint, including free education transport, a federal medical center, land rights protection, and youth empowerment programs.

The declaration was made public during a well-attended press conference held in Badagry, where the legal practitioner and community advocate formally unveiled his ambitious "Eight Mission for Badagry" (MB) blueprint, promising a new era of good governance, federal presence, and grassroots empowerment for the people of Badagry.

"I stand before you today not just as a candidate, but as a son of Badagry who understands the struggles, the aspirations, and the untapped potential of this great constituency," Noah declared before journalists, party faithful, and community stakeholders. "Badagry deserves more than just representation; it deserves transformation, and I am here to deliver it."

Medemaku's declaration was anchored on a robust eight-point agenda designed to address critical infrastructure deficits, social welfare gaps, and economic empowerment needs facing Badagry residents. Each mission represents a strategic pillar aimed at repositioning the constituency for sustainable development.

The cornerstone of Noah's campaign is the Federal Presence Initiative, which seeks to attract critical federal government projects to Badagry. He outlined a comprehensive list of infrastructure projects he would facilitate through effective lawmaking and strategic lobbying if elected.

"Through the instrument of lawmaking and lobbying, I will ensure the commencement of work on the site allotted for the building of the Federal Medical Center in Badagry," Noah announced. "This is not just about healthcare; it is about dignity, access, and saving lives that are currently being lost due to the absence of federal health infrastructure in our community."

The legal practitioner also promised to facilitate the reconstruction of the Mowo-Ikoga road, a critical artery that has suffered years of neglect and decay.

"We cannot speak of development when our roads are impassable. The Mowo-Ikoga road will be reconstructed, and Badagrians will finally experience the relief they deserve," he emphasized.

Educational Transformation: From Airforce Base to Degree Awarding Institution

In a move that could revolutionize educational opportunities in Badagry, Noah pledged to facilitate the upgrading of the Airforce Base and Institute in Owode-Apa to a degree-awarding institution, with a long-term vision of transforming it into a full-fledged Airforce University.

"This is not just about military training; it is about academic excellence. Our youths deserve world-class educational opportunities right here in Badagry, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that the Airforce Institute attains university status," Medemaku stated.

Connecting Communities: The Badagry-Ipokia Link Bridge

One of the most ambitious projects outlined by the aspirant is the construction of a link bridge between Badagry Local Government in Lagos State and Ipokia Local Government via Itohon in Badagry.

"I will collaborate with my counterpart from Ogun State to ensure that this project becomes a reality," Noah declared. "This bridge is not just about connectivity; it is about economic integration, cultural exchange, and unlocking the economic potential of both states. When Badagry thrives, Lagos thrives, and when Lagos thrives, Nigeria thrives."

Tourism Development: Harnessing Badagry's Rich Heritage

Noah also committed to facilitating Federal Government presence in Badagry's tourism sector, recognizing the constituency's immense historical and cultural significance.

"Badagry is the cradle of Nigeria's history, yet we have not fully harnessed this potential. I will ensure that the federal government invests in our tourism sector, creating jobs and showcasing our rich heritage to the world," he explained.

Indigent Rescue Movement (IRM) – Protecting the Vulnerable

Demonstrating a deep commitment to social welfare, Medemaku unveiled the Indigent Rescue Movement, a program designed to protect individuals whose rights have been infringed by law enforcement agencies, landlords, tenants, and other entities.

"This movement will take care of individuals whose rights have been violated. Whether you are a tenant facing wrongful eviction, a citizen whose rights have been trampled by law enforcement, or an indigent person residing within the constituency, we will be there for you," Medemaku assured.

In a groundbreaking provision, the IRM will provide monthly stipends of N5000 to every person aged 70 years and above residing in the constituency.

"The elderly deserve our respect and care. N5000 might seem small, but for an aged person in our community, it can make a significant difference," he said.

Noah also pledged to take care of the medical needs of indigent pregnant women and citizens, emphasizing that this was not a new initiative but an expansion of his ongoing personal humanitarian efforts.

"This is something I have been doing already; it is not a new thing. I already have people I am supporting in my little capacity. The House of Representatives office will only help me to reach more people," he explained.

Land Rescue Team (LRT) – Protecting Property Rights

Addressing one of the most pressing concerns in Badagry, Noah announced the establishment of a Land Rescue Team to investigate and collate all government-acquired lands and protect the rights of landowners.

"Seeing people's houses destroyed by government agencies and corporate bodies because of wrongful land acquisition is pathetic," Medemaku lamented. "I will set up this team to investigate and collate all government-acquired lands with the help of the Surveyor General's Office and furnish any interested individual with the necessary facts."

The aspirant also promised to collaborate with his state counterparts to ensure that all lands acquired by government but not utilized be released to the family landowners.

"This is about justice. It is about protecting the heritage of our people. Land is life, and we must protect it," he declared.

Young Students Initiative (YSD) – Investing in the Future

Recognizing the critical importance of education, Noah unveiled the Young Students Initiative, a comprehensive program designed to support pupils and students across Badagry.

"Free buses will be provided for pupils and students in every community having a distance and motorable road of 5 kilometers and above," Noah announced. "The buses shall operate between 6:30 am and 8:30 am in the morning and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the evening on every school day."

The initiative also includes annual inter-school competitions in the form of quizzes, debates, and sports.

"We must catch them young and groom them for greatness. These competitions will not only foster academic excellence but also build character, teamwork, and community spirit," he said.

Badagry Development Fund (BDF) – Empowering Youth and Artisans

The Badagry Development Fund, also known as the Youth Development Fund, represents Noah's commitment to economic empowerment.

"This fund will be accessed by both indigent students who intend to acquire tertiary education and the youths who are artisans and want to acquire work equipment," he explained.

Aspiring farmers will receive a grant or loan of N300,000 to pursue their agricultural dreams.

"We will give N300,000 to youths with a passion for farming. Agriculture is the backbone of any economy, and we must support our young farmers," Noah stated.

The physically challenged will also benefit from the fund through various forms of empowerment, ensuring that no one is left behind in Badagry's development journey.

Badagry Sports Initiative (BSI) – Fostering Unity Through Sports

With a vision to harness talent and foster community unity, Noah unveiled the **Badagry Sports Initiative**, which includes the construction of a mini-stadium through self-help and constituency allowance.

"I will ensure that a mini-stadium is built in Badagry. This is not just about sports; it is about providing a platform for our youths to showcase their talents and keep them away from social vices," he said.

The initiative will organize periodic competitions in field, track, and indoor sporting events, including football and video games.

"We will sponsor inter-community competitions twice a year to harness necessary talents in sports and foster inter-community unity. Sports bring people together, and Badagry needs that unity now more than ever," Noah emphasized.

Competent and Articulate Representation (CAR) – "The MAN Shall Give You a CAR!"

In a powerful conclusion to his declaration, Noah promised the people of Badagry Competent and Articulate Representation, deploying his training as a lawyer for effective and efficient lawmaking.

"I promise the good people of Badagry a Competent and Articulate Representation. I shall deploy my training as a lawyer into effective and efficient lawmaking for the benefit of Badagry and Badagrians," he declared.

Additional Promise: Facilitating Study Abroad Opportunities

In a move that could transform the lives of countless Badagry youths, Medemaku promised to facilitate study abroad opportunities for at least 10 students annually.

"I will make sure I facilitate study abroad for at least 10 students a year, which will mean 40 students in four years. The turnover effect on Badagry will be enormous," he said. "This is what I singlehandedly did for myself, so it's not rocket science".

Noah emphasized the brilliance of Badagry youths and the need for encouragement.

"Our youths are very brilliant; all they need is encouragement. My target is to make sure I build independent-minded youths like myself, where their sources of survival will not influence their decisions, and most importantly, speaking up for themselves," he concluded.

"Badagry deserves the best, and I am committed to giving nothing less than my absolute best," Noah declared. "The journey to a new Badagry begins now, and I invite every Badagrian to join me on this journey."

Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu

‘There are people who get into politics because they want power, and there are people who get into politics because they want to make a difference.’ For me, Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu belongs to the second category.

As I celebrate the birthday of Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu today, I cannot help but reflect on a man whose love for Badagry and its people has remained constant through the years.

Many people know him today as the member representing Badagry Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Some know him as ‘Star Boy’. Others still call him ‘SA Badagry’, a name he earned during his days as Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu because of how passionately he always spoke for Badagry and pushed for the interests of our people.

My first personal encounter with Hon. Bonu was in 2020 during the CityMood Badagry Social Media Awards held at Sycomore Hotel, Badagry. It remains a memorable moment for me because the Isaac Sewanu Educational Foundation emerged as the winner of the Best Use of Social Media Award, and Hon. Bonu was the one who presented the award to us. At the time, it was simply an award presentation. Looking back today, I see it as my first encounter with a man whose passion for Badagry and commitment to its people would become evident to all.

What I admire most about Hon. Bonu is not just the projects attached to his name but his ability to get things done. His lobbying skills have always stood out. Even as a legislator, he has shown that good leadership is not always about making noise but about building relationships and using them to attract development to your people.

Communities that lived in darkness for years can testify to this. Students who have benefited from his bursary programme can testify to this. Families whose roads have been rehabilitated can testify to this. Young people who have received opportunities through his initiatives can testify to this. I also know a number of people who secured jobs through Hon. Bonu’s lobbying efforts, and that speaks volumes about his willingness to use his connections to create opportunities for others.

Long before becoming a member of the Assembly, he was already paying bursaries to students. That commitment did not start with his election; it started with his love for education and his belief that every child deserves a chance to succeed. To the best of my knowledge, no Special Adviser from Badagry had done that at the scale he did.

Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu has shown resilience, dedication and an uncommon commitment to Badagry. Through challenges and criticisms, he has remained focused on service.

And to those who may be wondering, let me say this clearly: the masses did not reject you. Your work has spoken for you. The communities you have touched speak for you. The students whose dreams you have supported speak for you. The lives you have impacted speak for you.

The man called Bonu is not perfect, but he is a man who has consistently shown love for his people and a willingness to fight for the progress of Badagry.

For that, I say thank you.

Thank you for all you have done.

Thank you for all you are doing.

And thank you for all you are still going to do.

May your passion for Badagry never fade, and may history remember you as one of the sons of Badagry who genuinely cared.

Happy birthday, Star Boy!

May your best years of service still lie ahead, and may your love for Badagry continue to inspire generations to come.

2027 Shockwaves: APM Unveils Lagos Governorship Candidate, Ojo Reps, Makinde as Presidential Candidate

2027 Shockwaves: APM Unveils Lagos Governorship Candidate, Ojo Reps, Makinde as Presidential Candidate

By: Manoah Kikekon

OJO, LAGOS – Nigeria’s political chessboard is witnessing a dramatic reshuffle as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) officially unveiled its full suite of candidates for the 2027 general elections in a high-energy ceremony at Ojo Local Government Area. The event, which drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters and political defectors, signaled the party’s intent to challenge established giants, coinciding with the surging momentum of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidency.

In a move that caught many political observers off guard, the APM presented Laja Adeoye as its consensus flagbearer for the Lagos State Governorship seat. Simultaneously, the party solidified its legislative ambitions by unveiling Akogun-Abudu Akinlola Olumayowa, a former Labour Party chairmanship candidate, as its  flagbearer for the Ojo Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat.

Akogun-Abudu Akinlola Olumayowa

Olumayowa’s defection from the Labour Party to clinch the APM ticket is being hailed as a major coup for the rising party. Speaking to a rapt audience, the newly minted Reps candidate emphasized his grassroots loyalty over political ambition.

Laja Adeoye

“This is not about changing parties for personal gain; it is about changing the narrative of representation in Ojo,” Olumayowa declared. “The APM has offered a platform where the people’s voice comes before party hierarchy. I am not here to experiment; I am here to liberate Ojo Federal Constituency from the grip of distant politicians.”

The event also saw Hon. Olalekan Yusuf Akinpelu secure the party’s ticket for the Ojo Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, former Labour Party Councillorship candidate for Ward K Iba LCDA. AMP Party elders described the trio as "credible, battle-tested, and deeply rooted in community development."

Hon. Olalekan Yusuf Akinpelu

While the unveiling of local candidates provided the spark, the electricity in the air was fueled by the party’s growing national profile. Political analysts suggest that the APM is rapidly transforming into the "Third Force" in the Southwest, largely due to its adoption of Governor Seyi Makinde as its consensus presidential candidate for 2027.

Governor Makinde, who was not physically present but was represented by senior party liaisons, is reportedly spearheading a massive realignment of opposition political structures across the region. Following his pragmatic fallout with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership, Makinde appears to be leveraging the APM’s ballot structure to build a formidable coalition.

Seyi Makinde

A senior APM chieftain, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy, revealed the scale of the movement.

"Governor Makinde is not just a candidate; he is a movement. Since we flagged off the ‘Makinde for President’ project, we have seen an unprecedented influx of former PDP and Labour Party stalwarts in Ogun, Osun, and Lagos," the source said. "The people of the Southwest are tired of being marginalized in the presidential power-sharing formula. With Makinde on our ticket, the APM has become the home for strategic progressives in 2027."

The political calculation for the APM in Lagos is clear: use the wave of Makinde’s presidential appeal to anchor down-ballot victories. For the Ojo Federal Constituency, Olumayowa’s candidacy poses a direct threat to the incumbent, promising a shift from "ceremonial representation" to aggressive legislative action.

Party members celebrated the inauguration of the newly elected APM executives in Ojo, describing it as the formal burial of political apathy in the area. As the 2027 election cycle heats up, the APM is betting that the combination of a strong Southwest presidential candidate and hyper-local grassroots leaders will rewrite the electoral map of Lagos State.

With Makinde’s team already deep in consultation with political actors across the region, the APM has officially served notice: 2027 will not be business as usual.

Angry Badagry Youths Protest Deplorable Mowo–Ikoga Road, Threaten Indefinite Occupation

Angry Badagry Youths Protest Deplorable Mowo–Ikoga Road, Threaten Indefinite Occupation

By: Manoah Kikekon

BADAGRY, LAGOS — Boiling frustration over a decade of infrastructural abandonment erupted into open defiance on Saturday as furious residents and youth groups hit the streets to protest the severe dilapidation of the Mowo–Ikoga road. The road serves as a critical link between Lagos and Ogun states, has deteriorated into a treacherous stretch of mud and craters, prompting protesters to issue a strict July 1 ultimatum to the government before they ground the axis completely.

The protest led by prominent legal practitioner and social activist Barrister Medemaku Abayomi Noah, the peaceful demonstrators marched through the worst-hit portions of the road. They chanted slogans and carried placards decrying what they described as systemic neglect by local, state, and federal authorities who have continually ignored the community’s worsening plight.

Addressing the crowd during the demonstration, Barrister Medemaku slammed political leaders for treating the lives and livelihoods of the residents with levity, warning that the time for polite appeals has passed.

"The situation on this road is entirely unacceptable. Political leaders at the local, state, and federal levels have offered nothing but empty promises while our people continue to suffer daily. We are going to sustain these demonstrations every single Saturday until concrete action is taken to begin full reconstruction," Medemaku said.

The activist further warned that if no visible construction equipment is deployed to the site by the end of June, the community will escalate its agitation to a total shutdown of the corridor.

"If no visible steps are taken by the end of June, residents will escalate their action by occupying this road indefinitely. We will turn it into a permanent sit-in protest until the government responds to our cries." Medemaku added.

The collapse of the Mowo-Ikoga axis has fundamentally disrupted daily life in the border community. According to residents, the road turns into an impassable swamp during the rainy season, leading to frequent accidents that have tragically claimed the lives of several school children and local commuters. Beyond the safety hazards, the gridlock has inflicted severe economic strain, skyrocketing transportation costs, and forcing local businesses to a standstill.

A commercial driver who joined the protest expressed deep resentment, noting that the community feels betrayed by the current administration, especially given the high hopes placed on political representatives during the last election cycle.

"We have endured years of hardship and disappointment despite making multiple appeals for intervention. Before the elections, we saw some temporary palliative works carried out before Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan took office. While those interventions once provided temporary relief, we expected a permanent, engineered solution after he assumed office. Many voters now feel completely let down by the continued poor condition of this road." Local Commercial Driver said.

Stranded commuters and passers-by loudly cheered the protesting youths, with many lamenting that a commute that should ordinarily take less than ten minutes now takes over thirty minutes of punishing, vehicle-damaging transit. Many onlookers targeted their grievances directly at their federal representative, pointing out that years have passed with no tangible legislative intervention for the constituency.

"This road is exactly why we voted for Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan as our House of Representatives member. But after three years in office, what has he actually done for his people? You only see these politicians when an election is around the corner, making promises of heaven and earth. The moment they emerge victorious, they forget every single promise they made to the masses," Local Resident & Onlooker.

With the youth promising weekly protests every Saturday throughout June, the tension in the Mowo-Ikoga axis is palpable. All eyes are now on the Lagos State Government, the Federal Ministry of Works, and representative Hon. Sesi Whingan to see if they will deploy construction crews before the July 1 deadline triggers an indefinite civil occupation.

President Tinubu Approves N10bn Emergency Ebola Fund

President Tinubu Approves N10bn Emergency Ebola Fund

 By: Manoah Kikekon

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

ABUJA, NIGERIA  — In a proactive move to shield the nation from a potential healthcare crisis, President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate release of N10 billion in emergency intervention funding. The financial injection aims to fortify Nigeria's defenses against a potential Ebola virus outbreak, following a recent resurgence of cases in parts of Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

Alongside the massive funding, the Presidency announced the formation of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats. The specialized committee will be chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and will unite various federal agencies and state representatives to ensure a swift, coordinated national response.

According to an official statement released on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the administration is prioritizing national health security and rapid response capacity. The presidency emphasized that the funds are strategically earmarked to scale up surveillance and response infrastructure.

“The fund will strengthen the operational preparedness of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and support critical national public health emergency response activities,” the statement noted.

With the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) leading the medical frontline, the federal government has directed a sweeping overhaul of security at all major entry points. Particular focus will be placed on international airports, where strict biosecurity protocols are currently being rolled out.

The presidential directive mandates the immediate "intensification of passenger screening at all international airports, including enhanced temperature checks and crowd-control protocols," to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.

To ensure seamless compliance, the newly formed task force will collaborate with key aviation, border, and transport regulatory bodies. These include: FAAN (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria), NIS (Nigeria Immigration Service), NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority)

As part of the emergency containment strategy, Nigeria’s health officials will enforce mandatory health declaration systems for all inbound travelers. Dedicated isolation centers at the Lagos and Abuja international airports are also being fully activated to handle any suspected cases immediately.

The Gbajabiamila-led task force has been ordered to implement stricter monitoring on passengers arriving via high-risk routes. Furthermore, President Tinubu has directed that airport facilities, cargo zones, and baggage areas undergo rigorous, routine disinfections.

To prevent any gaps in the defense chain, the task force is empowered to coordinate directly with diplomatic, security, and aviation agencies. Their mandate includes regulating flights originating from heavily impacted regions and designating specific airport terminals for high-risk arrivals to ensure maximum containment.

In the same vein, Hon. Hunpe heartily cheered the appointment of Mr. Olabisi Yusuf, FCA, to the office of the University Bursar, noting that his two decades of unblemished financial stewardship within LASU made him the ideal candidate to protect and optimize the institution's treasury.

"Your appointment is a deserving recognition of a distinguished career marked by professionalism, financial expertise, integrity, and unwavering commitment to institutional excellence," the statement read.

"Having dedicated over two decades of meritorious service to Lagos State University, rising through critical positions within the University's financial management structure, you have consistently demonstrated exceptional competence and leadership in the stewardship of public resources."

With extensive experience managing treasury operations, complex budgeting, and donor-funded projects, Yusuf's transition to the chief financial role is seen as a strategic move to ensure the institution's long-term financial health.

We also thank Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State APC Chairman, party leaders, the Chairmen in Badagry, and our royal fathers. Today is a win for Kweme, Badagry, and Lagos State. It shows that hard work, loyalty, and service bring rewards."

The announcement has triggered widespread optimism across the region, with many pointing to her exceptional performance during her tenure as the Supervisor for Agriculture in the Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Raji Usman, the youth leader of Kweme Kingdom, recalled her inclusive governance style during her time in local administration.

"There is a lot we can say about her when she was the superstar for Agriculture in Badagry West LCDA," Usman remarked. "She did a lot in Kweme Kingdom and she did not restrict it to Kweme alone. She extended her impactful work to Farasime, Aseri, Iroso Ogologbo, and Gedun. Someone who could do all that as a supervisor will definitely do better in a higher office. She knows what we lack because she has always lived here with us."

An elder in the community, Dauda Mautin, shared the overwhelming emotion that gripped the kingdom upon hearing the political breakthrough.

"When I heard she was announced as the incoming Deputy Governor for 2027, I was so joyous that I couldn't eat throughout that day," Mautin confessed. "We are certain that our challenges, like good roads, youth employment opportunities, and electricity, will be addressed. My advice to all residents of Badagry West is to show total love to her and this administration, and ensure we come out en masse to vote to secure her success."

The enthusiasm is equally strong among women groups in Badagry, who describe Hon. Sonayon-James as a unifying figure capable of driving gender-inclusive growth in Lagos State.

Affirming their readiness for the upcoming political campaign, women leader Fajinu Kudirat stated:

"Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James is a hardworking woman who loves bringing women together. There is nothing we need from her within her capacity that she won't give us, and we are completely ready to support her at any time."

The Kweme youth leadership concluded by reassuring the state leadership that the kingdom stands fully behind their daughter, expressing absolute confidence that she will serve the state with honesty, wisdom, humility, and excellence.

Lagos Assembly Committee on Tourism Storms ‘Point of No Return’ Following Exposé on Projects, Assures Residents of Quality Work

BADAGRY, LAGOS — In a swift reaction to investigative media spotlighting, the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Tourism and Ministry of Tourism has paid an oversight visit to the ongoing infrastructural projects at the historic Point of No Return in Gberefu, Badagry on Wednesday June 10 2026.

The high-powered delegation, led by Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu the lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I and Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism was at the site to inspect the Quality Assurance of the ongoing developments.

The legislative intervention comes directly on the heels of an exclusive investigative report by News Peddlers, which exposed substandard construction practices on the tourist footpath, by the contractor, Sageto Limited and the fear of the residents that the Tunnel structure has lost its quality to stand the test of time.

Following the News Peddlers report, immediate corrective measures were visible at the site. Workers were seen laying protective nylon sheeting before setting down the interlocking stones a standard engineering practice that had been previously bypassed.

Addressing journalists during the inspection, Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu confirmed that the House took action immediately after the media report went viral online.

"We've seen it online that substandard job is going on here and we have sought approval from the Speaker to come and see what is going on," Hon. Bonu stated. "In the current Assembly, we don't need to wait for formal petitions; whatever public concern we see, we take it seriously."

The lawmaker explained that his team rigorously inspected the Footpath, the Attenuation Well, and the historic Tunnel. While acknowledging the immediate improvements made by the contractor post-media exposure, he demanded full transparency.

"We have interrogated the contractor vis-à-vis the Ministry of Tourism and have asked for specific documents which must be submitted to the House of Assembly for strict review," Hon. Bonu added. "We have seen some things that should be adjusted. However, I want the publisher of the article to hold on and make sure the job gets to 90% completion before further complaints. A key thing about tourism is maintenance, and there is always room for future improvement."

Local stakeholders in Gberefu noted that while they have had to step in as watchdogs, the legislative visit has brought much-needed accountability to the historic site.

Chief Samson Hungbo, the Baale of Gberefu, revealed that the community leadership had previously noticed structural discrepancies on the site.

"The work they are doing here is not bad, but myself and my cabinet have come here on at least two occasions where we saw things that were not proper. We corrected them, and they took to the corrections," the Baale remarked. "This visit by the lawmakers is good because they can now confirm what we have been saying with their own eyes."

Expressing appreciation for the swift political response, a Gberefu resident told News Peddlers:

"I really commend the efforts of Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu. We wouldn't have achieved this level of contractor compliance without his consistent effort. We hope he gets more opportunities to bring good things to his people."

Addressing the critical concerns raised regarding structural degradation due to coastal elements, the engineering team assured the public that the core infrastructure remains sound.

Mr. Alabi, the project's structural engineer, explained to News Peddlers in a separate engagement that the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean presents unique environmental challenges that are now being aggressively mitigated.

"The outer surface has rusted, but it is not structurally compromised. Some metals that have totally rusted are just thrusts—they are not really carrying any weight, and we have already changed them," Mr. Alabi explained. "The foundation is still very strong; the major thing needed was continuous maintenance. We are sealing the whole body this time to prevent future rust, because exposure to sea water is the primary culprit."

Providing a definitive timeline for the delivery of the premium tourism asset, the project's Quantity Surveyor, Adejo Oshaba, assured residents and cultural enthusiasts that the wait would soon be over.

"All the projects we have here will be fully completed in the next six months, and the people will see the world-class quality for themselves," Oshaba stated.
