Reps declares Gbajabiamila's seat vacant after resignation

Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, resigned, and Tajudeen Abbas, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, has declares his position vacant.


The announcement came after Gbajabiamila's resignation letter, which was submitted under personal circumstances on Wednesday at the plenary in Abuja.


Upon receiving the letter and reading it to the members, Mr. Abbas announced, "We have today declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant following the resignation of Gbajabiamila.


In his letter of resignation to the Speaker, Mr. Gbajabiamila stated that he will take on a new position as Bola Tinubu's chief of staff, CoS.


The Former Speaker also said that he will leave the 10th House of Representatives.


The President had already appointed Mr. Gbajabiamila to be his chief of staff.


Following his appointment by the President, Mr. Gbajabiamila praised the House and the residents of his federal constituency, saying that it had been an honor to serve them.


Before leaving the chamber, the former Speaker, according to NAN, moved a motion of urgent public interest entitled "Need for the Federal and State Governments to Take Action to Mitigate the Effect of Flood Devastation."


Mr. Gbajabiamila took a bow after delivering his letter, and members applauded and congratulated him.
