BADAGRY, LAGOS – The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Badagry Branch and Badagry West Branch, have jointly announced their plans to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Day in a significant three-day event.

The celebration, aligned with the global t6heme "Local Youth Actions for SDG(s) and Beyond," is designed to spotlight the pivotal role of young people in driving sustainable development at the grassroots level.

According to an announcement made early Thursday by Barr. Seyon Mesitode, Chairman of the Planning Committee, this year's theme underscores the critical importance of young people as active agents of change. "The 2025 theme emphasizes the critical role that young people play in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and converting global goals into tangible community-level activities," Mesitode stated. The event aims to recognize adolescents as leaders in innovation and problem-solving for the region's most complex challenges.

The council has outlined three-day program scheduled for September 21st, 26th, and 27th, 2025. The itinerary is packed with engaging activities designed to promote fitness, unity, and focused discourse. The events kick off with a Novelty Sport Game at the scenic Suntan Beach in Badagry, followed on day two by Federation Youth Walk to the Badagry Local Government (BLG) Secretariat, which will commence from a converging point at Gbaji.

The grand finale on September 27th will be held at the Badagry Youth Centre, located behind the Muslim Praying Ground on Hospital Road. This main event is expected to be the culmination of the celebrations, featuring key addresses and activities that directly address the theme of localizing the SDGs. The NYCN promises a "fascinating" series of events and assures attendees that they "won't regret attending."
