"The conventional way of doing this is to start from your club, which Rotaract Club of Ajara remains my home club," stated Awesu. "At the visit, we do a check and balance for the clubs, try to see what they have been doing so far following their by-law, and the principles and ideology of Rotary and Rotaract, and as well see how the club can progress."
A cornerstone of DRR Awesu's visitation mandate is the execution of a tangible service project. Aligning with this directive, the Rotaract Club of Ajara organized an economic and community engagement initiative aimed at empowering local youth. The project focused on equipping a skilled young barber from the indigent Apa community with the essential tools of his trade. Awesu praised the initiative, stating, "This is what Rotaract is known for. My message to Rotaractors is to continue unfolding its principles, especially doing good around the world."
The ceremony also marked a significant milestone for two new members, Elizabeth Odion and Blessing Adebayo, who were formally inducted into the club. Their induction signifies the club's ongoing growth and its continuous effort to welcome dedicated individuals committed to service and leadership, further strengthening the organization's capacity to serve the Badagry community.
Rtr. James John, the 16th President of the Rotaract Club of Ajara, expressed his honour at hosting the DRR's inaugural visit. "I am glad my club is the first to receive the DRR. The empowerment today is part of our culture, which we do from time to time to empower the youths in our community," John explained.
He detailed the club's process, noting, "The beneficiary was picked after our survey identified him as one of the indigent youths with a skill in the Apa community." President John concluded with an inspirational charge to fellow members: "Every Rotaractor should keep doing good as they will definitely get the rewards someday."
The profound impact of the project was best articulated by the beneficiary, Sewanu Dansu. Overwhelmed with gratitude, he shared, "I really appreciate this, as this clipper is the major tool in my profession. I've been praying to God to provide for me so I can get one. I really appreciate this, and God bless the club."
His testimony highlights the direct and life-changing effect of Rotaract's humanitarian efforts on individuals within the Badagry community, reinforcing the organization's motto of "Service Above Self."
