BADAGRY, LAGOS STATE – MAEJT Nigeria the organization for the welfare of Children and Youth, has organized mega psychosocial activity in Badagry in its advocacy for the wellbeing of children, emphasizing every child’s right to play, grow and thrive in safe environment across the communities.
The event, held on September 13, 2025, at Vetho-Ajara, Badagry Lagos State, it was specifically designed to bring together both Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) and children from the local community. Its core mission was to champion every child’s fundamental right to play a right often overlooked for those burdened by labour or difficult circumstances.
Semeton Hunge, the Communicator Manager for MAEJT, emphasized that the day was about allowing children to "feel free and exercise their right to play and enjoy being children."
A colourful array of games and activities transformed the venue into a paradise of fun and engagement. Children were immersed in traditional and popular games including Ludo, Ayo (a traditional mancala game), and Baby foot (table football). The excitement was further amplified by interactive quiz questions, challenging tongue twisters, and a high-energy dancing competition. MAEJT provided various gift prizes to the delighted children.
Elizabeth Odion, Program Manager of MAEJT Nigeria, highlighted the deeper purpose behind the event. She explained that the initiative was not just about fun, but about creating safe spaces where children could freely exercise their right to play. “When children play, they are able to express themselves more freely and confidently,” she noted.
She further emphasized that play also provides an opportunity to observe children closely, identify those who may need special attention, and ensure that no child is left vulnerable. “Through this, we can follow up with children, engage their guardians, and work to guarantee that they live in safe and protective environments,” she added.
