Rotimi Amaechi and Bola Tinubu |
Former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu, mocking the inauguration of just 30km of the 750km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. The ex-APC chieftain also raised serious concerns over alleged contract irregularities.
In a fiery interview on Channels TV, Amaechi expressed disbelief that Tinubu would personally commission such a small stretch of road, comparing it to a project fit for a local government chairman.
"30 kilometres? That’s what an LG chairman should commission, not the president!" Amaechi fumed. "Under Buhari, we completed the entire Lagos-Ibadan railway before commissioning. Why rush to celebrate 30km?"
The former minister, now part of an anti-Tinubu coalition, also questioned the transparency of the highway contract, which was awarded to a company linked to the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu.
"Buhari insisted on due process. How did they choose this contractor? Nigerians deserve answers," he demanded.
When asked if Tinubu’s administration was the worst in recent history, Amaechi shot back: "Name one government it’s better than. If he was doing well, I’d praise him but people are suffering"
The inaugurated section, a six-lane dual carriageway from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Village, began construction in March 2024 and was opened in May 2025. But with Amaechi’s explosive remarks, the project is now under fresh scrutiny.
