Critical stakeholders in Badagry West LCDA, Lagos State, convened a meeting to strategize on restoring electricity to the area after a five-year blackout.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at Suntan Beach Hall, brought together the Political office holders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious figures following the Lagos State Government’s approval of funds for the power restoration project.
Chaired by Hon. Sabur Oluwa, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy, and co-chaired by Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, the the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Badagry Constituency 1, the meeting focused on ensuring a seamless and sustainable electricity revival.
Key resolutions included: Replacement of wooden poles with concrete ones for durability. Installation of new transformers in communities with damaged units. Extension of power lines to areas far from the expressway. Formation of a joint monitoring committee to oversee the project. Employment of local certified technicians to support the initiative. Enhanced security measures to prevent vandalism of electrical installations.
Hon. Bonu Solomon, emphasized that community should see the project as their own and not for the Government. "I urge all residents of Badagry West to make sure they protect power infrastructure and report anyone caught vandalizing power infrastructures to security agencies rather than taking the law into your hands." He appreciated the efforts of the Governor for the approval of the project.
Previously, cables running under the Gbaji Bridge were easy targets for thieves. The new plan involves elevating cables on poles over the river to deter vandalism and ensure long-term power stability.
With government backing and strong stakeholder commitment, Badagry West is on track to finally exit its prolonged power crisis. Residents eagerly await swift implementation to restore light, boost businesses, and improve living conditions.
