Jesutega Onokpasa |
Jesutega Onokpasa, a former key member of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign team and a vocal All Progressives Congress (APC) advocate, has died at 49. The lawyer and political analyst passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, though the cause of death remains undisclosed.
Onokpasa gained fame as a fierce defender of APC policies, particularly during the 2023 elections, where he clashed with media personalities like Arise TV’s Rufai Oseni while championing Tinubu’s economic plans.
However, in a stunning reversal, he withdrew support for Tinubu in 2025, slamming the administration over rising insecurity, economic hardship, and alleged betrayal of party loyalty.
In one of his last major interviews, Onokpasa delivered a scathing assessment of the APC’s governance:
“Which done deal? When the people are hungry… President Tinubu has failed woefully to provide food, to give Nigerians succour.”
He also criticized defections to the APC, including his cousin, Delta State Governor Sherif Ogurewere, calling it “a waste of time” and demanding better governance over political maneuvering.
Pro-APC activist Okezie Atani confirmed Onokpasa’s death on X (Twitter), mourning: “We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa. May his soul rest in peace.”
