BRT collision in Lagos

A terrifying morning commute turned chaotic when two fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses smashed into each other at Cement Bus Stop along Old Abeokuta Road, Lagos, during Friday’s peak rush hour.

The violent collision left one driver trapped in mangled wreckage and sent scores of terrified passengers scrambling for safety.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of pandemonium as emergency teams rushed to the crash site, where approximately 100 commuters were onboard the colliding buses.

Lagos Traffic Radio’s Raphael Jerahmeel confirmed live updates, revealing that rescue operations were urgently underway to free the pinned driver while medics attended to passengers with minor injuries.

“Avoid the area entirely emergency crews are working to clear the gridlock,” Jerahmeel warned motorists as traffic backed up for miles. Though no deaths were reported, the crash has raised urgent questions about road safety on the busy corridor.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and first responders remain on-site as investigations into the cause begin. Commuters face severe disruptions, with officials urging alternate routes while wreckage clearance continues.
