Hon. Olumayowa Abudu-Akogun |
Hon. Abudu-Akogun Akinlola Olumayowa, the Labour Party Chairmanship Candidate for Ojo LGA, has called on residents to boldly resist what he describes as "evil tactics" aimed at suppressing voter turnout in the upcoming elections.
In a fiery address, he dismissed the notion of "wasting votes" as a ploy by opponents to discourage participation, asserting that Ojo's strong opposition presence makes it a key battleground.
Hon. Olumayowa accused rival parties of deploying underhanded strategies, including the alleged misuse of traditional Oro festivals to intimidate voters on election day.
He referenced the 2023 elections, where similar tactics were reported, and urged citizens not to succumb to fear. "Your fear is their gain," he declared, invoking biblical scripture: "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
The Labour Party candidate emphasized that electoral integrity requires courage, urging Ojo residents to "deal with fear once and for all."
He assured supporters of victory if they remain steadfast, stating, "Affliction shall not rise a second time." His message resonated with attendees, who pledged to defy intimidation and vote en masse.
This is not the first time concerns have been raised about cultural practices being politicized during elections in Lagos.
Critics argue that such tactics undermine free and fair voting, while proponents of tradition insist on their cultural significance. The Labour Party, however, maintains that democracy must prevail over manipulation.
