An Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo has sentenced controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, to three months in prison with an option to pay a N30,000 fine after finding him guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Portable was arrested in March 2023 after physically attacking a police inspector and obstructing officers trying to serve him an arrest warrant.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke revealed that the incident occurred on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 am in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
The court found Portable guilty of: Conspiracy & Assault (Section 517, Ogun State Criminal Code) Sentenced to 1 month in jail or a N10,000 fine.
2. Beating a Police Officer (Section 351) Sentenced to 2 months in jail or a N20,000 fine.
An additional charge of stealing musical equipment (including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor and AKG P420 condenser mic) was mentioned, but the singer was not convicted on this count.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo ruled that Portable must serve three months combined imprisonment unless he pays the total N30,000 fine.
