In a significant blow to the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, three of its lawmakers have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a continued exodus of key figures.

The defectors include Dennis Agbo (Igboeze/Udenu Federal Constituency), Mark-Chidi Obetta (Igboeze South/Nsukka Federal Constituency), and Malachi-Okey Onyechi (Nsukka West State Constituency), who officially switched allegiance on Thursday.

This move comes just days after two prominent LP chieftains Prince Emeka Mamah and Titus Odo joined the PDP, following the footsteps of Chijioke Edeoga, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, who defected earlier this month. Notably, all the decampees were originally PDP members before leaving for the LP during the last election cycle.

Speaking at the PDP Secretariat in Enugu, Onyechi expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with his former party, vowing to collaborate with leadership to strengthen the PDP. He also praised Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for its developmental initiatives, particularly highlighting a N2 billion project spread across 260 political wards in the state.

The mass defection signals a major realignment in Enugu’s political landscape, reinforcing the PDP’s dominance while weakening the LP’s foothold. With more high-profile exits likely, analysts suggest this could reshape voter dynamics ahead of future elections.
