Badagry, Lagos – Fear has gripped residents of Seme Border and Badagry West following reports that contaminated rice, allegedly released by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has caused multiple deaths, including that of a soldier.
Unverified claims suggest the rice was cursed by its original owner after being seized and redistributed without his Knowledge.

According to local sources, bags of rice confiscated by the NCS were later released into the market without the owner’s knowledge.
A viral social media audio claims the furious owner invoked a traditional curse, declaring that anyone who consumed the rice would die.
Tragically, reports indicate several fatalities, with a yet to be identified soldier said to have collapsed and died immediately after eating the rice.
An eyewitness described finding the soldier lifeless in his car along the Seme Expressway, a toothpick still in his mouth a grim sign he had just finished a meal.
The incident comes days after News Peddlers reported cholera-related deaths in Zongo, Seme Badagry.
However, new rumors suggest the fatalities may instead be linked to the alleged poisoned rice, raising questions about the true cause. Health officials have yet to confirm either theory.
Residents are demanding urgent intervention from the NCS and health agencies to investigate the rice’s distribution and potential contamination.
"We need answers before more lives are lost," a local trader told our correspondent.
