FEC Approves N37 Billion for Ikoga Road and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road in Ogun State – Major Boost for Southwest Infrastructure

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant move to enhance infrastructure development, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of Ikoga Road and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road in Ogun State at a combined cost of N37.045 billion. 


The approval, granted during Monday’s FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, is part of a broader infrastructure and ecological intervention plan across Nigeria.  


The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, disclosed that the Ikoga Road and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road projects are among several critical infrastructure initiatives approved to improve connectivity, boost economic activities, and facilitate smoother transportation in the Southwest region.  


Other major approvals include:  

Rescoping of the Akure-Ikere-Ado-Ekiti Road (N19.407 billion for 15km).  

Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Dual Carriageway (82.4km within existing budget).

Maiduguri-Monguno Road (Phase 1, 30km at N21 billion).

Abakaliki-Afikpo Flyover (N25 billion).  

Benin-Shagamu-Ore Road (96km at N187 billion).

  

Umahi highlighted the role of private sector partnerships, such as MTN’s involvement in the Enugu-Onitsha Road (N150 billion for 77km), and the China Exim Bank-funded 7th Axial Road ($651.7 million), which will serve as a crucial evacuation route for goods from the Lekki Deep Seaport, Dangote Refinery, and Fertiliser Plant.  

  

The minister also reported 70% completion on Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, with 30km set for commissioning soon. Additionally, 10km of Section Two is nearing completion, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transformative road networks.  


Dr. Emanso Umobong, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, announced approvals for dam rehabilitation and irrigation projects, including:  Tiga Dam in Kano (N11.83 billion). Shalagua Gorge Dam (N7.47 billion). Kafinciri Irrigation Project (N7.4 billion).


These projects aim to prevent flooding, support irrigation, and enhance food security, benefiting 30,000 farm families and creating over 300,000 jobs.


The approval of Ikoga Road and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road signifies a major step in Ogun State’s infrastructural development, improving trade, reducing travel time, and stimulating economic growth. Combined with nationwide projects, this aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to modernize Nigeria’s transport and agricultural sectors.
