President Bola Tinubu |
The Northern Bridge Builders Forum (NBBF), a prominent interest group, has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, citing his administration’s economic reforms and security efforts as key achievements.
The endorsement was announced by the forum’s convener, Senator Joel Ikenya, during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Senator Ikenya described the NBBF as a coalition of distinguished leaders from the three geo-political zones of Northern Nigeria, united by a shared vision for national progress. He emphasized that the group’s endorsement reflects the region’s confidence in Tinubu’s leadership despite ethnic and religious diversity.
“President Tinubu’s administration has introduced bold policies to attract foreign investments, stabilize the naira, and promote sustainable economic growth,” Ikenya stated. “The removal of fuel subsidy, though initially challenging, demonstrates his courage to reposition Nigeria’s economy for long-term benefits.”
The forum highlighted key economic milestones under Tinubu’s leadership, including: Increased federal allocations to states for development projects. Full repayment of Nigeria’s IMF debts, boosting international credibility. Praise from the British High Commissioner for Tinubu’s economic reforms.
“These measures lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s sustainable development,” Ikenya noted.
The NBBF acknowledged Tinubu’s efforts in tackling insecurity, particularly in Northern states plagued by banditry, terrorism, and communal clashes. However, the group urged the president to intensify security operations in high-risk areas, including: Borno, Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Kebbi.
Ikenya also called on the National Assembly to fast-track the Armed Forests Guards Establishment Bill, which aims to secure Nigeria’s vast forests from criminal hideouts.
The forum expressed strong support for local government autonomy, stating that financial independence for LGAs will accelerate grassroots development.
In a resounding declaration, the NBBF endorsed Tinubu for a second term, urging him to: Consolidate security gains in Northern Nigeria. Ensure timely distribution of farming inputs to boost food production. Implement immediate economic relief measures for citizens.
Ikenya also called on state governments and Nigerians to support the president’s vision and pray for the nation’s leaders.
With the 2027 elections in view, this endorsement signals growing Northern support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, hinged on his economic and security policies. As debates over his administration’s performance continue, this development could shape political alignments ahead of the next polls.
