Princess Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf, a leading chairmanship aspirant in the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has pledged her full support for the party’s candidate, Hon. Kayode Yemaren (RIKAY), ahead of the upcoming council elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Badagry, Ogungbe-Yusuf, the current Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in Badagry-West LCDA, commended the APC primary election committee, led by Justice Babatunde Ogala, for conducting a transparent and credible process.
Ogungbe-Yusuf emphasized the need for party cohesion following the primary election, urging fellow aspirants to rally behind Yemaren’s candidacy.
“The primary is over, and RIKAY is the legitimate winner as declared by the APC Secretariat in ACME. Now is the time for all aspirants to return to their wards and campaign for our party’s victory,” she stated.
She dismissed claims by Princess Oluremi Nutayi, another aspirant, who had rejected the vice chairmanship position offered to her by the party. Ogungbe-Yusuf argued that the slot should be returned to her, as she was the original nominee before the party attempted to pacify Nutayi’s camp.
Ogungbe-Yusuf asserted her qualifications for the vice chairmanship role, citing her extensive grassroots political experience.
“I have been preparing for this position for over two years while serving diligently as WAPA Supervisor. I have over a decade of experience as a female political leader at both state and national levels,” she said.
She highlighted her roles as: Women Leader of the Tinubu-Shettima 2023 campaign in Badagry-West. Senatorial Women Leader for Senator Idiat Adebule’s campaign.
“I have paid my dues. No other female aspirant matches my credentials. Yet, in the spirit of party loyalty, I accepted RIKAY’s victory because he won fairly. It’s disappointing to see others reject the party’s decision,” she added.
Ogungbe-Yusuf praised the APC leadership in Badagry-West, including Chief Joseph Bamgbose and the incumbent Chairman, Mr. Joseph Gbenu Henuh, for upholding fairness. She urged them to correct the “injustice” by reinstating her as the rightful vice chairmanship candidate.
“Now that the offer to Nutayi has been rejected, the party must do what is right. I am the most qualified candidate, and restoring the slot to me will ensure unity and peace within APC,” she declared.
With her pledge of support for Yemaren, Ogungbe-Yusuf expressed confidence in APC’s victory in the upcoming council elections. She called on all stakeholders to prioritize the party’s success over personal interests.
“Our goal is to ensure APC wins in Badagry. I will work tirelessly to make that happen,” she affirmed.
As the political landscape heats up in Badagry-West, all eyes remain on the APC’s next move regarding the contentious vice chairmanship slot.
