Obi Obieze (aka Obu Onyeka) |
Wanted native doctor and alleged kidnapper Obi Obieze (aka Obu Onyeka) was dramatically arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Expressway on Wednesday.
Obieze, a prime suspect in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl in Enugu, was attempting to escape to Seme border when vigilant NIS officers intercepted him. Sources revealed that he had fled his village in Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State, taking a night bus to Mile 2, Lagos, before boarding a commercial motorcycle (Okada) to the border.
Eyewitness Account: An NIS officer recognized Obieze and ordered the bike rider to stop. The suspect tried to flee but was swiftly overpowered and detained. He was found with an NIMC enrollment slip, confirming his identity.
NIS Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap confirmed the arrest, stating that Obieze confessed to the crime during interrogation. The Enugu Police had declared him wanted after the victim was rescued from a shrine linked to him.
The NIS is coordinating with the Nigeria Police for his handover and prosecution. Nandap reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to securing borders and combating cross-border crimes.
