Badagry, Lagos – In a heartfelt gesture of generosity, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development and founder of the Real Act of Kindness (RAK) Foundation, distributed 500 bags of garri and 500 bags of beans to vulnerable households in Badagry, estimated to feed about 15,000 persons.
The food distribution event, held on Thursday, was part of Ogunlende’s post-birthday charity initiative, a tradition he has upheld for years.
Speaking at the event, Ogunlende emphasized his commitment to giving back to society, particularly to women, whom he described as the "bedrock of the family."
"I enjoy interacting with women when it comes to community support because they understand the needs of the vulnerable," he said. "This is my way of ensuring they are not forgotten."
The commissioner, who also serves as Patron of the Badagry Development Women Forum, explained that the food items were distributed through 13 different groups, iincluding Market women, religious groups, Igbo women group, Housa women group, APC party structure and others, to ensure they reached those most in need.
Ogunlende highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development in addressing societal needs but stressed that community involvement is crucial.
"The ministry may not reach every home, but if we unite as a people—through mentorship and collective support—we can build stronger communities," he said.
Mrs. Atoyebi Olayinka, Badagry LGA Woman Leader, praised Ogunlende’s consistency in supporting the less privileged.
"He always considers us, especially in these tough times when food is a major challenge," she said. "This gesture will go a long way in alleviating hunger."
Mrs. Sewede Port-Balogun, Supervisor for Education in Badagry LGA, recalled that this was not the first time the commissioner had extended such support.
"Last time, he empowered 150 women traders with cash," she noted. "With hunger biting harder, this food distribution is timely. When people have food, the economy feels a little lighter."
While commending Ogunlende’s efforts, the women leaders urged more initiatives to combat poverty and encouraged women to remain resilient in securing their households.
This initiative reinforces the Lagos State government’s commitment to social welfare and grassroots development, proving that kindness and collective effort can make a real difference.
