Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu |
Labour Party’s Peter Obihas issued a strong demand to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to immediately abandon his trip to France and return to Nigeria to tackle the escalating security crisis and economic turmoil gripping the nation.
In a hard-hitting statement on his verified X (Twitter) account, Obi expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening violence, citing over 150 deaths in just two weeks—particularly in Plateau, Zamfara, Borno, and the South East.
"I call on our President to suspend his foreign retreat and return home to address Nigeria’s overwhelming security challenges," Obi declared. "The bloodshed and lawlessness demand leadership, not absence."
Obi highlighted multiple pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta, a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in Borno, and daily kidnappings and killings nationwide. He criticized Tinubu’s decision to remain abroad while Nigeria faces unprecedented instability.
"While the President enjoys peace in France, Nigerians are burying their loved ones," Obi stated. "A true leader does not retreat when his people are under siege."
Emphasizing that security is government’s foremost responsibility, Obi questioned the logic of Tinubu’s extended stay abroad amid rising terror and economic hardship.
"The fight for Nigeria isn’t about individuals—it’s about policies that protect and uplift citizens," he asserted. "President Tinubu must return immediately and take decisive action."
Obi’s outcry reflects mounting frustration among Nigerians, who see the federal government’s approach to insecurity as slow and ineffective. With no end in sight to the violence, pressure is building on Tinubu to prioritize Nigeria over foreign engagements.
