In a significant victory against terrorism, troops from Sector 2 of the Nigerian Army have eliminated 10 terrorists and successfully rescued 101 kidnap victims in coordinated operations across Kankara, Katsina State, and Shinkafi, Zamfara State. The operations, carried out between March 17 and 18, 2025, were executed in collaboration with the air component of the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to a statement released on Wednesday in Gusau by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, the troops achieved these successes through strategic and targeted assaults on terrorist enclaves.
The operation began in Katsina State, where troops launched a deliberate assault on a terrorists’ hideout located at Pauwa High Ground in the Kankara Local Government Area. This operation resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists and the rescue of 84 kidnapped individuals. The rescued victims were promptly handed over to the Kankara local government authorities for further assistance and reintegration.
In Zamfara State, troops acted on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities in the Bagabuzu area of Faru District, Maradun LGA. This operation led to the elimination of seven terrorists and the recovery of a motorcycle and other items. Additionally, 17 captives, who had been abducted by a notorious terrorist kingpin, were rescued from Tsibiri and Doka villages in Shinkafi LGA. The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care at a local hospital.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi emphasized that Operation Fansan Yamma remains committed to its mandate of ensuring the safety and security of communities in Katsina and Zamfara states. He called on the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the troops’ efforts, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
“The success of these operations underscores the importance of collaboration between security forces and local communities. We urge residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” Abdullahi stated.
