The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Badagry West LCDA has inaugurated 13 offices of directorate, which would oversee the various areas of development within the LCDA, and has been mandated to carry out at least two developmental projects every year.
The event was held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Badagry West LCDA secretariat, Badagry, Lagos State. The directorates inaugurated include Education and Training, Sports, Recreation and Social Affairs, Agriculture Development, Health, Employment and Job Creation, Environment, Housing and Ecology, Transportation Matters, Arts, Culture and Tourism, Physically Challenged, Gender, And Girl Child Empowerment, Peace, Ethics and Religious Matters, Child Rights, Gender and Human Trafficking, and Diaspora and Foreign Affairs.
Agbomenu Joseph, NYCN coordinator, Badagry West LCDA said "In Badagry West we have vibrant youths that are ready to serve, and today we are using the opportunity to bring them on board under the National Youth Council. In a short time they will start working, bringing substantial changes to Badagry. Badary West residents should expect more from this administration, as we know where we are coming from and we know where we are going.
"The most important thing now is collaboration and continuous engagement of all relevant stakeholders. The youths should not sit at home and expect miracles it is a clarion call that we need to serve. I cannot do it alone they need to support me to achieve the Badagry west of our dreams," he said.
Aladeotan David, NYCN Vice President Lagos West, in his address said the youths have contributed to the situation in the LCDA, and until all the youths are ready, there will not be a change. "It is not about fighting, but the youths have to take responsibilities in terms of being active and contributing their quota to the development of the LCDA, as the council chairman is restricted on things to do. Over time, sections were called to discuss the challenges facing the LCDA, but the youths will not show up as it's not enough to complain but to be part of the whole process."
He added that there is a need for continuous reorientation to let the people know their rights to tackle security officers harassing the residents.
Each directorate is expected to do two projects each year, and any directorate that fails to do this would be dissolved according to the constitution.
Waniyon Frances, the secretary NYCN Badagry West, said the directorate is an arm of NYCN that works for the betterment of the community and carries out community development projects, which means they are independent to some extent, and with that they can carry out their own programs. "If the 13 directorate can carry out two projects each, it will be a lot of development for Badagry West LCDA."
Ajande Pascal, the chairman of the directorate for environment and housing, said he felt so excited for the appointment as he was not expecting it and promised to dedicate himself to the development of the LCDA. "My directorate is ready to work with all stakeholders to make sure we have a cleaner Badagry border community by providing relevant material and organizing seminars on proper waste management and housing challenges in the area."
Halilu Awesu, the chairman directorate for Child Rights, Gender, and Human Trafficking, said "This is becoming a global issue, as it's something we need to reorientate our people and find a way to address the root cause, which is poverty. Most of those who move or are being trafficked are looking for greener pasture. Traffickers will always take advantage of them, but if they are being empowered, this will be reduced to a minimal level.
"We need to take advocacy to relevant stakeholders in terms of raising awareness and sensitizing them about the rights of children. We are also going to work on orienting children for them to be aware of their rights and for them to take action by participating in policies that concern them as child," he added.
