Sesi Ogungbe and Beneficiaries of cash empowerment |
Princess Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf, the Supervisor of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has empowered over 100 women and vulnerable people in Badagry West LCDA.
The event was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 at Suntan Beach hall, Badagry, Lagos State.
Speaking at the event, Ogungbe-Yusuf said this was to enable them to improve on their petty businesses and celebrate Christmas and New Year festival in their different homes.
The supervisor, who is an aspirant into the chairmanship in the 2025 Lagos State Council Election, said she was committed to empowering women and promoting gender equality in Badagry communities.
She said that the program was designed to support women who are struggling to make ends meet.
"Today, we gather to celebrate the resilience and determination of remarkable women who have been selected to receive cash empowerment.
"The cash grant of N20,000 is just for them to celebrate the yuletide festival.
"For those who want to use it to increase their petty trading, they can use resources they need to improve their economic situation," she said.
Ogungbe-Yusuf thanked people that had contributed in cash for the success of the empowerment.
I am committed to working tirelessly to promote the welfare and well-being of women and girls in Badagry West, and I hope to have the opportunity to do so as the chairman of Badagry West in the future. She added
Hon. Joseph Gbenu, the Chairman, Badagry-West LCDA, urged the beneficiaries of cash grants to use it for its purpose.
Gbenu assured the people of the council that he would organise another cash empowerment early in 2025 that many residents of the council would benefit from.
He, however, commended Ogungbe-Yusuf for assisting the council in helping to give grants to the residents to enable them to improve their businesses and celebrate yuletide festivals.
Mr. Abu Oriyemi, the Lagos State Ex-co of APC, said the time is now ripe for the supervisor to take the desired post in the council.
He said that the party elders were watching her activities, adding that she would reap the fruits of her labour.
Oriyemi commended her for assisting the vulnerable and women at this hard time.
Mrs. Deborah Dosu, one of the beneficiaries, promised that they would use the cash for its purpose.
She thanked the supervisor for WAPA for assisting them in celebrating the yuletide festival.
