Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun Inspector-General of Police |
Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector general of police, has urged Nigerians to always report police officers' unprofessional behaviour to the Police Complaints Response Unit instead of posting about it on social media.
This was revealed by Mr. Egbetokun on Monday during the PPROs/Police Communication Experts' Conference in Asaba, Delta.
"We urge the public to use the Police Complaints Response Unit instead of social media when reporting police officer behaviour," he said.
According to the police chief, reporting cases on social media to address grievances frequently results in misinformation that undermines the force's integrity.
While acknowledging that the platforms allow Nigerians to express themselves, he is concerned that unverified information may be misinterpreted when disseminated.
Mr Egbetokun, on the other hand, stated that the Police Complaints Response Unit has a more structured and accountable process for handling grievances, emphasising the importance of promoting transparency and accountability within the force.
