The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The examination body also stated that it has blacklisted two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states, as well as one examination centre in Borno state, for their involvement in examination malpractices during the 2023 SSCE external.
Professor Dantani Wushishi, NECO's Registrar/Chief Executive, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Minna on the release of the 2023 SSCE external results.
According to him, the two supervisors were blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and aiding and abetting, while the Borno centre was blacklisted for aiding and abetting by sharing WhatsApp messages with candidates.
Wushishi stated that 8,518 candidates were charged with various forms of malpractice, and that the examination malpractice cases included two centres in Kaduna and Ogun states that were involved in whole-center cases.
According to the results, 74,950 candidates registered for the examinations, which 74,342 sat the examination.
He stated: "There were 73,123 candidates who took the English Language exam, with 55,272 receiving Credit or above, which amounts to 75.59 percent."
"There were 73,119 candidates who sat for Mathematics, and 67,815 (92.75 percent) received Credit or above.
"The number of candidates who received five credits or higher, including English and Mathematics, was 50,066, representing 67.35 percent. In addition, 63,539 candidates, or 84.11 percent, receive five Credits or higher regardless of English Language or Mathematics."
The Registrar also implemented an automated annual posting calendar to address the issues associated with posting Council employees for out-of-station assignments.
He stated that the e-posting calendar would address the lopsidedness and favouritism displayed by trail staff when posting for various assignments.
