Comrade Sikiru Akintade, president of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN), a subgroup of the IBILE drivers association, has warned drivers against unruly behaviours.
This was disclosed on Saturday at the IBILE drivers welfare association 10th year anniversary held in Badagry, Lagos State.
Com. Sikiru. Akintade, the President Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN), advised that discipline should be enforced in IBILE driver associations. "Drivers attitude is important while dealing with the public, you need to compose yourself to be a man of good temperament, and most importantly, driving without a licence is like going to farm without farm tools," as it is an offence not to have proper documents.
Some people have become addicted to drinking alcohol. It is only the government that can help us on this, we can only do little. The majority of those people selling drinks in our parks are either friends or relatives.
"As it will be difficult to send such persons from the park, it's only the government that can enforce this because it's wrong to be driving and drinking you'll do things you're not supposed to do when you're drunk, which can lead to the death of both the passengers and the drivers."
Mr. Ajayi Joseph, the deputy route commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRCN), said that the members should contribute to the greatness of the association. In all he advised that the drivers should have good behaviour.
He said that drivers should get all the necessary documents. Suggesting that there should be a uninform for drivers, which will make identification of members easy for the FRSCN officers.
"Drivers should be careful of overconfidence. Obey the rules and regulations on the road. Do not overspeed. Drivers are the movers of the nation, drive to stay alive," he said.
Mr. Adediran Ezekel Gbadebo, the president of IBILE drivers association, said drivers should know that their work is lucrative, which depends on how it is handled, and they should be careful on the road while driving. He also said that drivers should not drink while driving.
He further pleaded for cooperation among the drivers, as this would enhance problem-solving. And not to drive while they are distributed in their minds.
