Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan |
Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, the House of Representatives Member for Badagry federal constituency, has said he is dedicated to making Badagry an economic hub.
He disclosed this on Thursday at the breakfast media palley held at his residence in Badagry, Lagos State.
Sesi, who has just spent six months in office, briefed the journalists on his steps for the past six months geared towards the development of Badagry.
At the meeting, he said he has joined 12 relevant committees to address the challenges facing Badagry people, which include infrastructure and control of mineral resources. These committees include the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources, a Member Special Committee on crude old thefts, a Member Basic Education Committee, a Member House Committee on electoral matters, a Member Committee on justice matters, a Member on Youth Development Committee, a Member Climate Change Committee, a Member Committee on intergovernmental affairs, a Member Committee on national security, and a Member Committee on Public Service Matters.
He has moved not less than 11 bills in the interest of Badagry development. 5 of which have already been read and deal with Nigeria as a whole, not just Badagry.
The bills include the Environmental Health Bill. The Petroleum Industry Act, "When it comes to the country, the petroleum industry is very important, as that is where over 80% of our revenue comes from. Countries around the world are solely dependent on oil and gas; whatever we have is enough to solve major problems in the country. I can tell you that in a few days, Nigeria will start supplying gas to South Africa." Sesi said.
Palm oil development bill, "When you compare the price of a litre of palm oil to PMS, you'll know that when we say oil is money, you cannot restrict that to crude oil," he said.
He said he has also proposed an Internet child photography prevention bill: "Currently, there's no law that checks what our minors are exposed to on the internet. Which we'll have to address."
He added that he is working on building an information technology (IT) hub in Badagry to engage the youths in software development and engineering, as this is one of the most important professions around the world.
