Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu and Mr. Olumide Afeez Garba |
Olumide Afeez Garba, the team lead and CEO Voice of the Farmers VOTF, said Honourable Solomon Saanu Bonu, the Lagos House of Assembly Member for Badagry Constituency I, has assured the farmers in Badagry that they will feel the presence of government this time.
The honourable member disclosed this to Olumide in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.
He said, "I heard it on the radio today that most of the government provisions meant for the farmers were going to the political farmers who do not have any farm to prove. While the real farmers are not getting anything. Bonu said this time will be different, this new government is a government of accountability and will not allow anyone to deprive the farmers of their rights."
News Peddlers learned that Bonu had earlier commended the efforts of his fellow honourable members for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mowo-Ikoga road, on his Official Facebook page, and had assured the people of better days ahead and that the presence of the government would be felt this time.
Speaking with News Peddlers, Salami Balogun, a driver at Ikoga, said the situation on the road was very bad. "We have been hearing that they will Come and construct the road. We appreciate the government's ongoing rehabilitation of the road, and we pray that God will help them so that It can be completed. This road has damaged our cars so much that we have had to visit the mechanic every day."
Chief Mrs. Rasheed Aminat, the Iya oja of Ikoga (Shangotedo) Market, said, "If this road is good, everyone will have free access to the market, including the farmers. This road has affected farmers, sellers, and buyers. I'm pleading with all the farmers not to leave our market because of these circumstances. They should be patient with us; better days are ahead.
"Some people could have even gone back because of the conditions of the road, and this has affected the market so much. We plead that they begin the construction before the water washes the stones away, we don't expect palliative when the government pays for the construction. The local government is generating revenue from this market, and we expect them to do what we want," she added.
