Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu |
Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Badagry constituency I, has called on relevant authorities to checkmate the presence and excesses of different security personnel, especially operatives mounting roadblocks on the Lagos Badagry Express way from Agbara to Seme Border.
This was disclosed on Tuesday at the Lagos State House of Assembly's first Plenary since its inauguration, with a call on the National Assembly to commence action that would lead to the establishment of State Police.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who led the renewed call for State Police, said that the approval for the State Police would assist in stemming the spate of insecurity in the country.
He stated that "the uncoordinated operations of these law enforcement officers usually discourage some tourists from visiting the town." This, according to him, "will affect the economic activities of not only Badagry but the State as a whole."
He implored the Leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to put measures in place to regain public confidence in the ability of the Police to ensure adequate security for all citizens without trampling on the fundamental human rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the Constitution.
Recalling some of the latest happenings in and around Lagos in terms of Security, the House noted that there is a need to call on the 10th National Assembly to see it as a matter of urgency to make the issue of State Policing a major factor of development.
Hon. Bonu appreciates the Speaker of the House for consistently leading the clamour for the establishment of state police over the years and for his interest in the security of lives and properties of Lagosians.
