Violence in France |
In light of the ongoing violence in France, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman advised Iranian citizens to avoid unnecessary trips to the European country.
The warning was issued by Nasser Kanaani in a statement posted on the ministry's website on Monday.
He was speaking about the ongoing protests in France, which were sparked by a police officer's fatal shooting of a teenager.
Kanaani also warned Iranians living in France against making unnecessary trips to or visiting conflict zones, noting that Tehran was keeping a close eye on events in France.
Earlier that day, on June 27, a French police officer opened fire and killed 17-year-old Nahel M, a French citizen of Algerian and Moroccan descent, after he refused to stop his car.
The officer who fired his gun later told investigators that he did so out of fear that the car would cause a fatal accident.
The shooting sparked violent protests across France, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of people by French police in major cities.
