Five governorship candidates resign in support of Sanwo-Olu ahead of the March 18 election

On Monday, the Alliance of Registered Political Parties (ARPP) announced its support for the reelection of Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.


Governorship candidates from five of the ARPP's political parties have also stepped down in favour of Mr. Sanwo-Olu ahead of Saturday's gubernatorial election.


The parties are Young Progressives Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Action Peoples Party (APP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Allied Peoples Movement are the political parties (APM). The National Rescue Movement (NRM), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).


Adeyemi Abiola of the APP, Adenipebi Mode-Adekunle of the ZLP, and Funmi Kupoluyi of the APM are the governorship candidates who stepped down for Mr. Sanwo-Olu. Others are Ishola Bamidele ADP and the  Ajayi Adebayo YPP.


"We reached this decision following our thorough analysis of all the good works and rapid development in Lagos state," said Mr. Adebayo, leader of ARPP, at a news conference on Monday in Ikeja. "We cannot sacrifice the current administration's numerous landmark achievements scattered across the state on the altar of bitter politicking."


Governorship candidates and nine representatives from the ARPP political parties attended the event.


He claimed that through the THEMES mantra, Sanwo-Olu fulfilled his social contract with the people of Lagos.


The ARPP leader stated that the group concluded that Mr. Sanwo-Olu is a governor who is committed to taking Lagos to greater heights in the coming years.


"Lagos state at a time like this is better entrusted in the hands of experienced and patriotic leaders. "A vote for Sanwo-Olu is an endorsement for continuity and greater development," Mr. Adebayo said. "This support stems from a love and desire for a greater Lagos state, for which Sanwo-Olu has set the pace and deserves to see it through."
