The National Population Commission (NPC) has set March 31 as the date for training of enumerators who have applied to participate in the upcoming census.

Sa'eed Yusuf, State Director of NPC, stated this in an interview in Ilorin on Friday.

Mr Yusuf stated that those who applied to participate in the census exercise would receive messages before the training began, and that the training would last seven days.

He did, however, state that applicants who have not yet decided whether or not to participate in the exercise could be called upon if necessary.

The training of Centre Managers, which began on March 14, was completed, according to the director, who added that it would ensure that all training centres met the standard.

"This is to ensure that trainees comply and attend the training properly, and any issues that may arise during the training will be addressed by centre managers," he explained.

Mr Yusuf assured the people of Kwara of the NPC's readiness for the exercise, stating that the change in census date to May had no effect on ground preparations.

"We're already prepared for the exercise. We are prepared for training in all 16 local government areas, as well as other events leading up to the census," he said.

As a result, the director requested more financial and physical assistance in order to conduct a thorough and successful census.
