EFCC Officials |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has deployed detectives across the country ahead of Saturday's governorship and state assembly elections.
Wilson Uwajaren, EFCC spokesman, revealed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Mr. Uwajaren stated that teams led by senior officers had met with representatives from other security agencies involved in election security as well as INEC officials.
"Teams led by senior officers began arriving at their assigned locations earlier today, March 17, with a number of them consulting with other security agencies involved in election security and INEC officials." In part, the statement reads.
The commission sent operatives to the recently concluded presidential and national assembly elections on February 25.
Several cases of violence and vote buying were reported in several states, with thugs snatching ballot boxes and burning ballot papers and preventing voters from voting for their preferred candidates in some polling units.
The EFCC announced the arrest of several people in connection with vote trading, including a lecturer at Sarwuan Tarka University (formerly known as the University of Agriculture) in Makurdi, Benue State, who had N306,700 in various denominations stashed in his car.
