Mr Donatus Mathew, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, has been declared the winner of Kaduna State's Kaura federal constituency.
The returning officer, Professor Elijah Ella, declared the results yesterday, saying Mathew received 10,508 votes to defeat the incumbent member and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Gideon Lucas Gwani, who received 10, 297 votes.
According to reports, Mathew was a councillor before becoming a commercial motorcycle rider due to financial difficulties. He is also described as a trustworthy and hardworking Nigerian.
He stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate received 9,919 votes, while the New Nigerian People's Party (NNPP) candidate received 5,354 votes, placing third and fourth, respectively.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the winner was declared, Mr Donatus Mathew thanked the electorates for their trust in him to represent them in the Green Chamber.
He did, however, solicit the people's support and cooperation, promising to carry everyone along to achieve the desired success.
