JUST IN: Tinubu asks judge to prevent Labour and the PDP from stopping presidential election collation and INEC's declaration

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress has asked a federal judge to stop the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party from interfering with the ongoing collation of presidential election results from last Saturday.

According to the Daily Trust, Mr Tinubu stated in a suit filed in Kano that the development occurred after the Labour and PDP sought to end the exercise due to allegations of irregularities.

 According to the paper, the suit was filed before the Kano Division of the Federal High Court under reference HC/KN/CS/43/2023, seeking urgent relief to ensure that the election collation and declaration proceed uninterrupted.

Labour and PDP spokespeople did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the suit.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu has continued to count results from across the country, with the final result expected to be announced soon.

However, opposition political parties have increased pressure on the electoral chief, urging him to cancel the election and resign immediately due to the contentious manner in which he handled the election and the transmission of results.
