The All Progressives Congress (APC) Prince Sesi Whingan has been declared the winner of the Badagry Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC Returning Officer Babatunde Adeoye, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, declared on Sunday at the Collation Centre in Ibereko, Badagry.
According to the returning officer, 227,521 voters registered in the Badagry Federal Constituency, while 54,081 voters were accredited to vote.
He claimed that the APC candidate received 34,970 votes, beating out the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Adekunle Lebile, who received 7,637 votes in the 25 February National Assembly elections.
Mr Adeoye stated that the Labour Party received 7,091 votes, the ADC received 573 votes, and the ZLP received 407.
He stated that 51,135 of the 53,465 votes cast were valid, while 2,330 ballot papers were void.
"Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Sesi Oluwasun Whingan of the APC has scored the highest number of votes, is at this moment declared the winner and returned elected," he said.
According to Mr Adeoye, only nine parties ran in Badagry's three Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Whingah defeated incumbent House of Representatives member Babatunde Hunpe in the APC primary held in 2022.
Speaking to journalists shortly after being declared the winner, Mr Whingan said the results reflected the level of affection the Badagry electorate had for him.
The newly elected representative promised to bring a democratic dividend to Badagry residents, and he dedicated his victory to the people of the town.
