JUST IN: Buhari instructs the CBN to make only the old N200 note legal tender

Mr. Buhari directed the Central Bank of Nigeria's governor, Godwin Emefiele, to issue more old N200 banknotes and new N200 notes to the public.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria and, by extension, the Nigerian Central Bank to accept only the old N200 notes as legal tender, despite the Supreme Court's order.

Mr. Buhari directed the Central Bank of Nigeria's governor, Godwin Emefiele, to issue more old N200 banknotes and new N200 notes to the public.

For the next 60 days, the old N200 notes will be legal tender.

On Thursday, the president made the announcement during a national broadcast.
