Ms Mohammed revealed that some supporters of northern origin are betting on Mr Tinubu's eventual incapacity so that Mr Shettima can take over as president.

According to Naja'atu Mohammed, some northerners who support All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu do so because they want his running mate Kashim Shettima to succeed him as president.

Ms Mohammed, a former campaign director who left the APC a few days ago, revealed this in a recent interview with This Day.

In her latest jab at Mr Tinubu's camp, the Kano-born politician revealed that some northern supporters, who appear to be ignoring the APC flag bearer's obvious health frailties, are actually banking on his eventual incapacity so that Mr Shettima can take office as stipulated by the constitution.

"All they want is for him to be president so that they can be president. It's not even in his best interests," Ms Mohammed claimed. "Some people in Maiduguri called me today (Monday) and asked, 'Hajia, why did you do this? You've now piqued our interest. And you're joking about our son becoming president? After all, Tinubu is incapable of doing so. Kashim has our support. You have not performed admirably for us."

Ms Mohammed recently resigned as Mr Tinubu's campaign's director of civil society engagement. She claimed she couldn't serve the country's interests in good conscience if she continued to back the former Lagos governor.

She went on to say that Mr Tinubu's health is in such a bad state that he is unfit for public office.

"I sat with him for two hours in London; when you mention green, he will respond with red. He can't even read. He has severe dementia; I believe he has Alzheimer's because he can't even hold a cup of tea," she explained.
