Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State, has announced automatic employment for 15 first-class graduating students from Edo State University, Uzairue.

Obaseki made the announcement at the institution's fourth convocation ceremony in the state's Etsako West Local Government Area. He commended the school for its achievements in learning and research.

"As usual, all 15 students who made the first class in this set have automatic employment into Edo State Civil Service; your job is waiting for you," he said.

"We have made it a standard that any graduate from any of our universities in Edo State who received a first-class should be given automatic employment in our public and civil service." We want to develop skilled labor.

"As we celebrate the Edo State University Uzairue's fourth convocation, the institution has continued to set the standard for teaching and research in Nigeria." This academic year has been challenging, but today we celebrate the graduation of our first cohort of postgraduate students.

"In the last six years, we have prioritized education." We have continued to implement transformational reforms in our basic education sector because we believe that education must be built on a solid foundation."

"As a government, we are now prioritizing technical and vocational education because we believe that to build our country, our educational system must now focus on developing people who can use their hands and skills in the workplace," he continued.

"We will not have the strong human capital base that we require unless we strengthen the foundation of education in this country by strengthening basic education and promoting TVET."

"Our vision for higher education is to be able to compete with the best in the world by providing education that is relevant and contemporary in the country."

"This university has continued to set impressive milestones in its journey toward self-sufficiency and sustainability." "I am impressed with your success thus far."

In response to former Director General of the Nigeria Television Authority, Tonnie Iredia's convocation lecture titled "Fake news: Rethinking the role of mainstream and social media in national development," the governor stated, "There is an imperative to ensure that journalistic ethics are upheld across media platforms and that the media is socially responsible in the discharge of its activities so that the generality of the people are best served with the content."
