The eBook piracy website Z-Library is currently inactive. Because all of the site's DNS servers were also taken, it is unclear whether they will reappear online with other domains or if they will vanish entirely.
During the outbreak, millions of new users joined one of the most well-known eBook pirate websites. At its peak, the website hosted over 11 million books and 84 million articles.
Z-Library has been chastised for making money by selling monthly subscriptions to illegal eBooks. This has attracted a sizable user base and millions of monthly visitors.
The US Postal Inspection Service has taken control of the Z-Library and all of its domains, a week after TikTok disabled all hashtags pointing to the website.
One of the most appealing aspects of Z-library was the front and backlist title catalogue. Many of them have appeared or continue to appear on major publisher bestseller lists.
In terms of interface quality, they outperformed their competitors. All books were downloaded directly from their website rather than via BitTorrent.
They were all DRM-free and could be read on any tablet or e-reader. In addition to EPUB, which was their most popular format, they offered to send to Kindle in a variety of other formats.
In contrast to websites that sell stolen content and rely on advertising to fund their web traffic, Z-Library charged a small monthly subscription fee after you downloaded a certain number of books.
They began as a clone of Library Genesis, whose goal has always been to provide unrestricted free access to everyone and to be non-commercial.
