Football fans in Enugu celebrated the Olympic Eagles' 2-0 victory over Tanzania, which advanced them to the final qualifying round of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
In the 61st and 69th minutes, Alhasan Yusuf and Success Makanjuola sealed Nigeria's victory at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Nigeria advances to the final round of the qualifying series with a 3-1 aggregate after a 1-1 draw in Tanzania a fortnight ago.
Some football fans, speaking in Enugu shortly after the match, said the players made their day by progressing to the next round of the qualifier.
Rangers FC media officer Norbert Okolie stated that the players demonstrated good teamwork and a desire to advance to the next stage of the competition.
"The Olympic Eagles did well, because the Tanzania Under-23 team is not a pushover in Africa," he said.
Okolie asked the technical team to strengthen the team before the next round of qualifiers to ensure the team's participation in the AFCON tournament.
"Congratulations to the players and coaching staff, but we're still not there yet." "The players should not relax because the next round may be more difficult," Okolie said.
Former Nigerian boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo believes the team should not have waited until the second leg to defeat Tanzania.
"The players performed admirably in Tanzania but were unable to complete the game." To avoid being eliminated in the next round, our strikers must be prolific in front of goal.
"The Nigeria Olympic team has given us more excitement," Okoronkwo said. "That is what I expected any Olympic team to hold on to and keep the memory of the 1996 Olympics flying."
Nana Bonsu, a Ghanaian goalkeeper for Rangers International FC of Enugu, described the result as a morale booster for the team heading into the next round of qualifying.
"It's good because they've advanced to the next round, and I've been praying for them to succeed."
"This is just the beginning; I hope the team makes it to the final and brings smiles to the faces of their fans in the country and around the world," Bonsu said.
