Lagos Collapsed Building: Govt Order The Arrest Of Developer and Construction Company

 BY: News Peddlers

The Lagos State Government has ordered the arrest of the developer and building professionals involved in the collapse of the seventh-floor structure in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Mukaila Sanusi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the building is under construction on Oba Abiodun Oniru road in the Iru/Victoria Island area.

Idris Salako, the Ministry's Commissioner, issued the order during a visit to the collapsed building site.

Mr Salako stated that the developer and professionals were liable because they disregarded state planning laws.

He defines this as starting construction without a valid planning permit and ignoring official warnings not to continue construction.

He stated that no one should take the completion of an application for a permit through the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority as a ticket to begin construction.

"There must be a valid planning permit from the aforementioned agency, as well as a letter of authorization, stage inspection at each stage, and certification by the Lagos State Building Control Agency," he said (LASBCA).

“This will ensure that construction works are carried out in conformity with the approval granted”.

The commissioner, on the other hand, stated that the police had begun a manhunt for the project's developer, architects, builders, and engineers, while the government investigated the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

He expressed concern about builders' growing disregard for law and order, adding that the government was determined to restore sanity and orderliness to the sector.

He also stated that the state government had declared building collapse incidents intolerable.

Mr Salako urged Lagos residents to work with the government to keep the built environment safe by reporting any illegal developments in their area.

Infractions should be reported through any ministry or state government communication channel, especially the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development APP and LASBCA, he added.
