The
Lagos State Police Command have arrested the driver and the conductor of a
commercial bus linked with the death of a cow, and the relatives have pleaded for their
release.
The incident happened in the early hours of Monday at Agemowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.
The
herders were crossing the expressway, with their cattle when a commercial
bus crushed the cow to death.
Two
yet-to-be-identified cattle herders reportedly stabbed a man mistook for the conductor to death in protest against the killing of a cow around the area.
Following
the murder, the two herders were arrested by the police. PUNCH reports said.
As was reported by NewsPeddlers that the person that was murdered
was not the conductor, and that the driver
and conductor are alive. Who had voluntarily reported themselves to the police station.
The relatives of the driver are now pleading with the law enforcement
agencies to hasten their work and free the driver and the conductor.
Benjamin
Hudenyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that five
persons were in police custody over the murder.
He said, “They are the driver of the vehicle, his conductor, two
herders and the owner of the cow.
“They
are assisting us in the investigation because it is a comprehensive and
holistic one. Remember, this is a murder case and we need to be very careful
with the investigation.
“We are not targeting anybody. We need everybody’s input,
including bystanders, so that we can recreate the scene and know what exactly
happened and who exactly is at fault.
“At the end of the investigation, anyone found not culpable will be
allowed to go.”
