Hon. Ibrahim Layode, Hon. Bonu Solomon and Hon. Sesi Whingan |
Hon. Ibrahim Layode, Legislator representing Badagry Constituency I,
Lagos State House of Assembly, disclosed that former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu
initiated the Policies his successors are building on to date.
He disclose this on Thursday at
the 8th Annual Stakeholders Meeting simultaneously held in all the 40
Constituency of Lagos state and the last edition in the life of the 9th
Legislative Assembly.
He said, "Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu initiated remarkable and
comprehensive policies and reforms that were successfully implemented and built
upon by worthy, credible and competent successors that were freely elected by
the people, and who continued to transform the state beyond imagination from
Babatunde Raji Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode and our current dynamic and pragmatic
Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
"From job creation, employment, empowerment, waste disposal,
safety and security, business opportunities, housing, traffic control and
transportation, healthcare delivery, dependable revenue generation, reliable
justice system, healthy environment, infrastructural development, education
amongst others, and from Megacity to Smart City, Lagos state has continued to
excel, and it is no surprise that, although a state, it is ranked as the 5th
largest economy in Africa.
"With our proud records of dividends of democracy and
achievements, we have continued to inspire many states and countries all over
the world who are learning from us, and it is highly instructive to note that
these achievements have only been possible through the active, determined and
patriotic participation of citizens like you in choosing those to lead us by
voting for the right candidates and representatives at all levels of
government. It is through the continued performance of your civic
responsibilities as citizens and as guaranteed by the constitution that we can
stabilize our polity.
"Your labour, sweat and sacrifices in the rain and sun have never been in vain as these have
ensured that Lagos state remains in good hands; under great leaders, visionary
governors, vibrant and responsive legislators, and the right local government
council officials.
"These leaders, interestingly have continued to shine by
representing the state and serve the nation even in higher capacities and at
different levels of responsibilities", he said.
Hon Layode in his keynote address said the need to commence
preparations to ensure the success of the general election at all levels is key.
"The imperative of the Permanent Voters' Card as mentioned in the
theme of the meeting is hinged on the need to ensure that we are eligible to
exercise our civic responsibility.
"It is worrisome that over
20 million PVCs remain uncollected across the nation according to a recent
INEC report and out of this huge figure, 1 million is from Lagos state. This
situation does not augur well for our progress, our democracy and the
development of the state as it may create an opportunity for incompetent
persons to be elected as leaders and representatives and thus overturn our
achievements.” He said.
He asserted that the Lagos State
House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa
wishes to reiterate the need for everyone to obtain his or her Permanent Voters
Card in order to vote in the coming general election.
Layode said, "Your PVC is your power not just to continue building
the state but the nation as well; it is your power for continuity, it is your
power for stability and sustainability of our enduring and cherished democracy,
it is your power to secure a bright and promising future for our children,
state and nation."
Mr. Solomon Bonu, APC candidate for Lagos State House Assembly
commended the leadership of Assembly for coming up with the stakeholder's
meeting.
Bonu said the meeting is an avenue to sensitise the people of the
Constituency on the importance of their PVCs.
"I have also supported the meeting by mobilizing our people.
Suggestions have been made to INEC on how to make the process less stressful
for the people." He said.
