Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast and back the Federal Government’s economic policy adjustments, assuring that the ongoing reforms are structured to unlock opportunities and build a sustainable future for the nation’s youth.
He made the appeal during his welcome address at the maiden Seyi Tinubu Colloquium, themed ‘Shaping the Future Together’, held on Monday at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The event brought together key stakeholders, youth advocates, and leaders to deliberate on nation-building, administrative inclusion, and the socio-economic outlook of Nigeria.
Reflecting on national leadership as he approaches his birthday on October 13, Seyi noted that while no generation gets to choose the state of the nation it inherits, every generation holds the duty to forge a better reality for those who come after.
He stated that the current administration chose to tackle Nigeria’s systemic challenges head-on to safeguard the destiny of upcoming generations.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not choose the Nigeria inherited from his predecessors, yet his administration chose to confront the challenges of our nation, not for itself alone, but for the benefit of those who come next for us, the young generation,” he said.
Pointing to key policy decisions including the elimination of the petrol subsidy, foreign exchange convergence, and comprehensive tax reforms he described these shifts as fundamental recalibrations of how the country manages resources and generates wealth.
While recognizing the immediate financial strain these structural changes have placed on households across the country, he urged citizens to look toward the long-term benefits.
“Changes have not been easy. Families whose budgets have been stretched the pain was immediate, the lasting improvement more difficult to feel and touch, yet they are no less real,” he acknowledged.
He emphasized that strategic investments currently being directed into critical infrastructure, power, manufacturing, mining, highways, and agricultural expansion will ultimately enhance national productivity, improve market linkages, and drive large-scale job creation.
Highlighting the necessity of institutional capacity building, Seyi argued that strengthening access to quality education and affordable credit remains essential for empowering Nigerians to thrive in global markets.
“A road built today will serve people who are still children. An institution strengthened today can protect opportunities for Nigerians yet unborn,” he remarked.
Closing his address, he reaffirmed his backing of the President's vision, stressing that young people must actively take part in governance and decision-making processes to safeguard their collective tomorrow.
“I support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms because we will inherit a future built by leaders of today. That is why I also believe we have the responsibility to participate in the leadership and ensure that what is decided today will benefit all of us tomorrow,” he added.
