Abolaji Sewhude Akande (PhD, HC), Publisher of CityMood, has rejected his nomination as a member of the Badagry Federation APC Campaign Council following its inauguration on Thursday, 29th October 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Akonde today after the appointment was announced.
Akonde said: "I wish to respectfully clarify my position following the publication of my name and its announcement as a member of the Badagry Federation APC Campaign Council at its inauguration on Thursday, 29th October 2026."
"I was neither informed nor consulted before my name was included in the list. I am not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and I have not accepted the appointment as announced," he continued.
"As the Publisher of CityMood, I consider professional independence, public trust, and responsible journalism important to my work. I believe it is necessary to clarify this position to avoid any misunderstanding about my personal political affiliation and the editorial independence of the publication."
"In view of these considerations, I respectfully decline the appointment as announced. This decision is not intended to express hostility towards the party or its members, and it does not foreclose the possibility of future engagements or professional relationships where appropriate."
"I sincerely appreciate the Director-General of the Campaign Council, my dear friend and brother, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, as well as Dr. Sewedo Samuel, Chairman of the committee to which I was assigned. I hold both gentlemen in high regard and appreciate the goodwill that may have informed my inclusion."
"I remain committed to the development of Badagry and to promoting issues that advance the interests of our community, while upholding the professional values that guide my work," he added.
