The Kano State Police Command has successfully intercepted a massive cache of explosive materials and narcotics in two high-stakes operations within the metropolitan area. This major breakthrough comes amid heightened security measures to curb banditry and criminal activities in Northern Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, revealed that specialized units conducted strategic operations based on intelligence reports. A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) unit identified dangerous materials recovered from abandoned sacks.

The seizure included: Six rolls of detonating cords, 20 parcels of dried leaves (suspected to be Cannabis Sativa), 220 sachets of Exol tablets, a controlled substance often linked to criminal behavior.

The second operation proved even more critical when officers from the Anti-Thuggery Unit intercepted a commercial tricycle in the Sani Mainagge Quarters of Gwale LGA. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be transporting three bags of heavy materials.

Expert analysis confirmed the bags contained 3,700 electric detonators. The tricycle rider’s cooperation led to the immediate arrest of Ibrahim Garba, also known as ‘Manyan Baki.’ The 49-year-old suspect, a resident of Zamfara State, reportedly confessed to facilitating the movement of these explosives from Nasarawa State to other destinations.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Bakori praised the tactical precision of the officers involved. He emphasized that the investigation is being intensified to uncover the full network behind the transit of these explosives.

In light of the discovery, the police command issued a stern warning to the public regarding unidentified objects. "The public is advised not to touch any suspicious item seen, keep a safe distance, and immediately report it," CSP Kiyawa stated.

The authorities have urged citizens to remain eyes and ears for the security forces. Any suspicious movements or items should be reported to the nearest station or via the following emergency hotlines, 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926
